55 ftw

Played the satellite to the 250k guaranteed weekly last night, this 55 hand secured it. Would anyone have folded this preflop bearing in mind top 6 won seats? Obviously it's a good job the turn was Jd rather than another diamond, just felt I had to go for it at that stage. Any comments?

Re: 55 ftw

Hi Ed

Personally I'd fold UTG but the resulting call of the shove and call isn't too bad.

Re: 55 ftw

You'd fold it Scottie? No way I'm ever folding a pp at that stage of a tournament UTG, a wee limp or a decent raise would be my only 2 options.

This is why I'd fold it pre-flop UTG

Re: 55 ftw

I'd only limp here if the table is VERY passive. A big raise is a bad play IMO - if someone plays back at you, you'll either have to fold or play for your stack against someone who is at worst 50-50 against you. I'd make a pot-sweetener raise to maybe 2.5 or 3BB if I was going to play it.

I don't like your call here after the raising - the big problem is that the player after you has min-raised - I'd be very leery of him having a big hand (which he does) and it is action to him after you call. If he is an aggressive player and regularly min-raises then I'd be pushing here when the action is back to me.

Re: 55 ftw

Pretty standard fold imo. Retain your status as 3rd chipstack out of 10 players with 6 qualifying, why get involved in such a dodgy marginal spot.
Any pocket pair UTG is in a dodgy situation bar the big pairs really unless you get lucky and flop the set.

With half the table as short stacks theres a decent chance someone will push all in leaving you in a tough spot where youre hardly ever gona be anything better than a coinflip if you call. Probably flipping two thirds of the time and fucked the other third.

Dont see the point in getting involved especially when in a good spot in a satellite. I would actually fold this utg any time the stacks were not deep in any sort of tournament (which is most of the time in a donkament). If you want to try to take advantage of possible tight nearing the bubble play its better just to wait til your on the button and then try a steal with anything than contribute chips to the pot here in search of a set.

Re: 55 ftw

Aye ok points taken, cheers guys.

I knew how much of my stack I was risking making the call. Obviously I knew I was behind but felt it worth the call to see if I could get the set. Had I missed the flop I would've been out of there obviously and I was still comfortable with the chips I would have left. Had been playing with these folk a couple of hours at this point and was pretty sure I would make top 6 whether I won that pot or not, hence me taking a chance on it. I liked the look of it, I felt confident regardless of the outcome, so I decided to play it, simple as that. All the books I'm sure will say I should be folding but having never read one I wouldn't know. All just a bit of fun for me, don't take it very serious, never intend to. If I followed the "rules" I would've given up a long time ago due to the sheer boredom I reckon..

Haven't seen (virtually) you for a while Muse, what you been up to? Still dealing?
