Re: A few hands to think about...

I agree doc in the sense going all in preflop is an ok play, however it is not the play I would make in this situation.

I realise everything you say about blinds and aggression doc, i just mentioned the j7s thing in reply to what you said about 107s

Re: A few hands to think about...

tis a matter of opinion Jez, but I think you are giving the guy too much credit here - he is nearly eliminated in a tournament and his opponent has played as if he had 32o!

Re: A few hands to think about...

Another thought from me..

If i was him, i might have played that hand the same way he did, with JJ,QQ,KK,AA,AK,AQ,AJ trying to extract as many chips as possible... Not much fun to raise preflop, and the big stacks folds, when you have premium hand.. You cant get any worse than 2nd place.. But you have to double up, to challenge 1st place... So i would slow play any big hands at that stage.. Of course i might risk he outdraws me with 27o against my AA.. But i have to take that chance imo...
So he could have had quads.. He could have had higher pair, for higher FH.

btw.. even though we dont always agree all of us.. I think its great discussing these things, to get different point of views on these things... Im sure i will remember this discussion next time im in a hand like this...

Re: A few hands to think about...

I think that would be a bad way to play it. Nothing wrong with limping pre-flop with a monster hand (although AK, AQ, AJ aren't going to seem too clever to an all-in bet on the flop or later if you haven't hit), but you have to get your opponent involved after the flop when you can beat top pair.

In this case, everything in his betting says he doesn't have the board beaten, unless he is slow playing the case 9.

With your stack advantage, if you play with maximum aggression then you put him in the most difficult situation - he can call with a weak hand, not knowing what you have and knowing that he needs to double up 3 times or so to win, or he can fold (thus eating away his chip stack) and wait to get a monster hand.

He is at, or at least almost at, the stage where his best strategy is simply to go all-in every hand.

Re: A few hands to think about...

How should i have played this??
Level1 of STT. Im in cut off..
I reraised in the hope to take the pot right away.
When the 8 hit the turn, i got a bit scared of his Ace.. Couse i think he had a Ace since he called me...
Now A with K,Q,J will beat me with better kicker..
And A with 9 or 8 wich is problably the worst kicker anyone would call that raise with, then he got 2 pair..
And then of course the 4 so only A with 2,3,5,6 or 7 would give me the winning hand.. So hoped i could check it down.. But wasnt that lucky...

Sadly i dont know what he had... He didnt show.. But what do you think he had??

After thinking about it, i should problably just have folded to his raise...

Re: A few hands to think about...

Hmm I would definitely be calling that at the end Cains for nearly 6/1 odds. He might have like AJ but could easily be worse ace tbh. I think he does have the Ace though. First round of an STT lots of people will call with ANY ace I think so dont be paying too much to the fact he called it meaning something great.

Why didnt you call at the end, very cheap like. You may well be beat but worth a look incase you dont have to be good often at all to make it worth while. He could just be making one of those defensive river bets with marginals in the hope of seeing a showdown.

Re: A few hands to think about...

I know for sure, that i would problably be ahead if turn was J,Q or K instead of the 8.. Couse agree with you, that he problably had A + below T.
But was worried he had 2 pair..
Mainly the check on the turn.. Couse i think he wanted a check raise.. and i deceided that i didnt want to spend to much more on that hand. So it was either Raise on turn, to see where i stand, or call an possible raise on river.. But deceided i was problably beaten, so didnt want to spend more.. So just checked, and folded.

Actually now you say i was 6/1.. I didnt really pay attention to that..

Only thing i saw was that it was 100 and i "only" had around 1200 left..

Re: A few hands to think about...

Yeah you gotta check them pot odds there, no more streets to be dealt out or anything as well so no future bets to be concerned about.

I mean im not saying youre winning there, you may well not be but worth a call. If he put a large bet in id fold.

Re: A few hands to think about...

yeah i know...

sometimes i loose focus for know reason... Hate when that happends...
And happend again a few hands later.. I was in good shape with chips.. Only level3.. And for no reason i go all in to try and steal a 300 bet with my AQo.
He turns over TT, and i dont improve.. I had 28 more than him, so im out the next hand.... No need for me to do that...

But i do it again and again. And i know im wrong the minute i do it....

Re: A few hands to think about...

Don't think you played the hand too badly cains, other than the final fold really. By calling you'll also get a whole heap of info about him which you can use later on, and while he could have hit two pair, and is trying to tempt you into a call/going over the top, without a raise preflop its also highly likely you're beating his kicker if thats not the case.

Re: A few hands to think about...

Yeah know its a coinflip.. But stupid thing to do early in a STT, when in good shape.. If i was low stack.. Like 1000 and below.. And in level3, i would problably do it and try and steal, or double up.. And if not, then feck it.. No reason to waste 1hour and finish 4th....

Yeah agree beanie... The info could have been good... (if i survived some more hands )

Will try and remember.. Playing a freeroll with tickets to the guaranteed 150WSOP seats tomorrow.. im 100 out of 300 right now.. Top10 wins..
