Re: KK played wrong...
Most of what needs to be said has already been said. I'll just add one more pretty obvious point. I say obvious but I still see people make this mistake.
Say you have raised with a hand like KK and the board has come down a nightmare like 9 10 J with a flush draw on. There are now tonnes of draws on for people as has already been discussed. Sometimes what happens though is the raiser will hit a card and lose a load cos he is unable to throw away a set.
OK so the flop is 9 10 J, now if the turn comes and it is a king, you might think great, but remember anyone with a queen has now made a straight, and anyone with AQ has now made the nut straight. With a few people in the pot it's a good bet someone has a queen. But some people still think oooh sweet I have K K K and bet at it when it should be clearly obvious there is a high chance they are already beaten. Of course you can fill up to a full house on the river, but you want to hit the full house before you go throwing any money at the pot. Ideally you want the river for free, but if the people you are playing against are any good they should be betting this heavily to stop this happening. If you have a set and only have the river to come you only have slightly better than 4-1 odds of filling up to a full house or quads.
There is of course the implied odds, if you make the full house there is a very good chance a flush or a straight will pay you off so you have to consider this as well as the direct pot odds for what it is required to call.
A bad player upon making the straight or flush may bet small for a pot builder or check to try and "disguise" his had. Silly as a straight can easily be outdrawn by a flush and with such a large preflop raise a hand like KK is of course a possibility you must consider.
Here is an extreme example of something which would be stupid but it's just to sorta illustrate the point.
You raise with QsQc
flop 9h 10h Jc
turn 2c
River Qh
Wow rivered a set ! Yeah but also there is now a flush for anyone who was drawing hearts. There is also a straight for anyone with a King or an Eight, both of which are beating you. It is of course possibly someone flopped a straight anyway ! You get the idea though ? Don't get carried away if your QQ or KK hits if it's gonna make a whole load of other hands.
A slightly less obvious one is hitting a set with a hand like QQ or KK which also completes a flush, no straight to worry about but still the flush. People are usually in pots for some reason so you have to be careful !
