Newcastle 2.50 - 08/08
On paper this looks Kiwi Bay's to take, with 11 out of 13 tipsters on the RP having it as there most likely winner. However Mr Nick Millard off the Racing radio channel has a system where you do not back 2nd time up horses who ran well on debut and are priced below 2/1 (this one is 5/4). I also think that the Pontefract race was not of amazing quality.
The winner was the favourite, who won going away whilst the 3rd placed horse who has won since and has an official rating of 80 tried to make all and failed to get home in the soft ground.
That day the rain was bucketting it down, some of the horses must have been put off by the heavy rain and it made the race somewhat a lottery.
I therefore prefer to side with one at a longer price, Le Torreador. This horse was a decent proposition first time up finishing 5th of 12 at Thirsk. This time stepping up a furlong the brother of top sprinter La Cucaracha, who won at this distance as a 2YO, and is from a family that has a decent 2YO record.
The horse holds group entries but will need to show improved form to win this race.
