Re: Grand National preview

OK,
I've taken:
£3 on Clan Royal @ 28 - 1
£2.50 on Mckelvey @ 14 - 1
£2.50 on Dun Doire @ 18 - 1
£2.50 on Monkerhostin @ 22 - 1

all each way.

I've no idea what I'm doing. Never placed a bet on horses in my life. WHat does each way mean?

Re: Grand National preview

to finish in the top 4 or 5 depending on your bookmakers. It gets reduced by a factor (normally 1/4 in big handicaps)

ew = 2 bets, one to win, one to place

the place part is 1/4 the win odds

if your horse wins you collect on the win part and the place part
if your horse places you collect on the place part only

So if McKELVEY finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, you will get £11.25 back (place odds are 7/2....a quarter of 14/1)

£2.50 on Mckelvey @ 14 - 1

If it wins you get the £11.25 place return, then a further £37.50 on top from the win part.

Gone with wee punts on:

Point Barrow
Joes Edge
McKelvey
Dun Doire

...to win, and:

McKelvey
Dun Doire
Philson Run
Ballycassidy

to place, and:

Longshanks
Liberthine

in the office sweep.

Phew.

Re: Grand National preview

Went with;

* Point Barrow, McKelvey, and Dun Doire to win
* Jack High and Ballycassidy and Eurotrek EW at bigger odds

Others in the family have went with Longshanks, Joes Edge and Eurotrek.

Re: Grand National preview

Well, my highly-developed pin sticking technique has lead me to go with:

Dun Doire @ 26.0 (Sporting Odds) 1pt e/w
Naunton Brook to place @ 40.0 (Betfair) 1.5pts

Good luck all

McKelvey ain't even grey - show's what I know. Kandjar D'allier and The Outlier look to be the only 2.
