two early picks

Turkey @1.16, this is a sure fixed home win, i am sure most bookies will remove it

england @1.57

this is the gift of the week, not much to say,

nice combo, see you around guys

I think 1.57 is an terrible, terrible price for a team who don't even need to win the game. The value bet has got to be the draw surely.

Martens come back!! That was casual as you like wan't it? Here's my picks see you around Good luck Martens. I was gonna agree with you in that England look nailed on to do the business at home but ODM has a very valid point. Whats the 'benefits' of finishing first in the group?

Makes no difference whatsoever Komp. Unless teams are so closely ranked by FIFA that one performance will mke a difference if their positions, which is unlikely.

Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers: 21/11/07

So the seeding for the draw will be done by Fifa ranking ODM? i'll go 'investigate'.

Somebody had taken the courtesy to do the math and posted his analysis in the "UEFA and Europe" section, under "Euro 2008 seeding system" thread.

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showt...8#post13067568

His calculations were up to date as of last month. At that time, Croatia and Holland were tied on top of the table, followed by Sweden, Romania, and Germany. In light of the results of this weekend's matches, and assuming there will not be any shock surprises this Wednesday, Holland is set in the pole position and will become one of the top 4 seeded teams.

Pot 1: Greece, Swisse, Austria, Holland
Pot 2: Croatia, Sweden, Romania, Germany
Pot 3: Italy, England, Czechs, Portugal
Pot 4: Portugal, Poland, Spain, Turkey

We could see the extremes:

Group of Death: Holland, Germany, Italy, Portugal
Group of Life: Holland, Romania, Czech, Turkey

Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers: 21/11/07

Cheers folks

I was wrong with all my thoughts last weekend. I cant be always wrong. For the midweek I want to say something about England Croatia game. I will be enjoying at first place watching it without any pressure as we are trough. I must admit that I personally would like to see England at EC. England deserve it, tehy were better then russians throughout whole qualifications and imo are leading nations in worlsd football. Bad habit to stick to their coaches for too long. Every other nation would long time ago suck their coach if he had that display from such class players. Imo result doesnt mean much anymore, if england qualify or not, england was already once out and is pure wonder that have ended this way, and Mclaren have not contributed 1 promile to that.

I went off the thema what I wanted to say. England invest so much in football and I am honestly greatfull to that. England rise all standards in euro club football, and those games that we enjoying in CL are to the highest procentage thanks to english football. Spain, and Italy are following and Germany started to spent money again to be able to keep up. So all in all the land that most do for football lately deserved to go to the tournament.

Other thing. Game against us wont be that easy I supose. Our players target is to get contract in england. LAtely few folks pened great contracts with english clubs (Eduardo, corluka, Kranjcar and posibly next one Modric with Chelsea).
There is still few folks which would like to play under rainy clima in the future. I even can see Bilic give chance to Pranjic and MAnjukic or even Vukojevic in this game. So what I wanted to say, I think we will give england a game on Wednesday. Would be sorry if England dont go to the EC, but also would be pleased if my folks win this one.

I think there are some teams missing from that list Komp as i don't see Northern Ireland and a couple of others, I'll go and see if they have been updated yet.

Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers: 21/11/07

i wish i was as confident as you Johnny but i don't like tempting fate, the main thing here is that England now have their destiny back in there own hands and that usually means we'll make a pigs ear of it.

As you mention Croatia are not going to role over and die whilst they are in the shop window and you possess players that can roll us over if they are up for it, I just hope the British based players have a soft spot for us and take it as a friendly now they have qualified.

Hopefully a draw will suit both parties but its a dodgey line to tread as were bound to shoot ourselves in the foot and will be nerve wrecking for us English, I'd like to think we could bag a couple and breeze home but with our attacking options at the moment were gonna struggle to score one, Fingers crossed I'm going to go for a 1-1 with Croatia nicking a leveller in the last 10 mins so we all shit ourselves till the final whistle.

Good luck to the Irish too as if they ever needed it they do now, wouldent be surprised to see them get a result in Spain but its a big ask of Latvia to expect them to do em a favour over in Swden.

You like fixing conspiracies, Martens, don't ya?
I won't waste my time to dissuade you from your opinions, but obviously you've watched too small part from the game you quoted.
And Turkey needs to fix their game at home against out of sort Bosnia???
Of course the guests won't make some big effort there, of course Turkey will win it, but fixing...

BTW will England take some advantage if they finish on top of their group, as Komp asked already?

I can't see Bulgaria winning in Slovenia, the home team will be motivated to show some quality in front of their fans, the most probable outcome is the draw and I won't hesitate more to put some money on...
And the under looks nailed for that game.

And I have a fixed home win for you, Italy will beat Faroe Islands, sure fixed game, pile on

Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers: 21/11/07

From what I remember, the seedings are supposed to take into account....

Past performances in world cup and european championship finals

Past records in qualifying for the above

FIFA world rankings

Then UEFA have a meeting and see which teams are going to generate the most revenue if they stay in the tournement the longest and they tweak the seedings as they see fit.

In other words, it's not a straight FIFA ranking job and it's not easy to predict. For example, Croatia and England are very close in the official rankings but even if Croatia ended up ahead of England in the rankings there is no way on God's little green earth that they would allow Croatia to be seeded and England not.

Money talks.

Cheers ODM,

first you have to qualify, than we talk about seeding. You forgot that you have to fight for a draw against best team in the group. Seems our lads are set to spoil the party. Some russian money is in talks as well. In some interview Eduardo stated that he dont want anything more then a win over england. If I were an englishmen and had Mclaren as coach I would start to worry.

No you wouldn't. You would have started worrying a long time ago, believe me

Cheers ODM,

I hope you don't think that my post was saying anything againt Croatia or suggesting that I thought England were certain to qualify Johnny

I wasn't suggesting either of them. I'm just saying UEFA are twisting bastards who will not shy away from twisting things towards whatever makes the most money, given hald a chance.

Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers: 21/11/07

Dont worry ODM,

I was just teasing. I really hoped for Israel to make surprise. We are idiots if we dont made up draw before the game. Everybody happy. Our coach Bilic is also huge fan of english football. He also had great connections in England. He had his fingers in all transfers involving CRo players and english clubs.

Our former coach Blazevic said some time ago after we have played russians, and they played real crap in both games, that would be real shame for football if they progress.

My own opinion is not just about money. I really think that in last 7-10 yeras noone other country did so much for football as england did. Thats not just money, thats passion and love to the game. Looking forward for some drama and on the end the draw.

Nice words mate

Cracking player Bilic. Igor Stimac would have to be my favourite Croatian player of all time though. Class.
