Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

They haven't married officially and yet Paddy's have paid up. I can't complain about that though.

Awards season is in full flow. Golden Globes are tomorrow night (Tuesday morning for us in the UK). I'm flying by the seat of my pants with a variety of hit-and-hope bets and I'll have the full misery of knowing I'll have to rely on listening to BBC Radio Five Live whilst I'm at work during the middle of the night as to whether I've won or lost.

* BABEL to win Best Picture - Drama at 8/1. The 8/1 though has since been nibbled at over Paddy Power (down to 6/1) and VCBet (dropped to 5/1).

Everybody's saying The Departed will win and it probably will. There have been however some murmurings and predictions that Babel could very well win it.

They've allowed me £23.49 over at Paddy's and £26 over at Victor's. Sorry about the lateness as it's selfish not to tell folks of a bet when the best odds are still there (they've since gone though).

I've dumped another £75 over at bwin/betandwin because weirdly I've begun to like them even though I fear their reputation as being very, very sore losers who don't pay up on winning bets.

I might have some sports bets over at um, bwin to try and bump up that £75 but yesterday was absolute atrocious to my various bookies' accounts (I went busto with Bet Direct, Betfred, Paddy Power ~ didn't lose £125 btw as I withdrew some of it ~ and William Hill).

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Hmmm. Most of the predictions for tomorrow night seem to think that for 'Best Supporting Actor' that Jack Nicholson's lost some of his cache and that the HFPA will go for either Eddie Murphy or Brad Pitt.

The odds are kinda nice. 6/1 for Pitt at Centrebet and 9/4 over at bwin.

£25 on each.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Good times. Good times.

Due to a quirk of being distracted over the weekend by a string of crap sports bets, I missed out on the 6/1 available on last year's champion Damien Dempsey over at William Hill to retain the 'Best Irish Male' award over at the Meteor Awards (Ireland's version of the Brit Awards).

Damien's been bet down from 6/1 into 9/4 and now 6/4 favourite. He's still 9/4 though over at Bet365 of which they'll let me have £100 but I'm only willing to bet £35.55 because I'm waiting for funds to clear from Victor Chandler by which time that 9/4 will have disappeared.

Telling factor here could be Paddy Power's initial quote of 3/1 and Damien's now 6/4 favourite (you'd think of all bookies apart from perhaps Boylesports that Paddy's would keep their eye on the ball as to what's happening on the Irish music scene).

I can't see how David Kitt was the original favourite (I own a CD of his and I think he's rubbish). Public vote though so watch out.

Someone's asked about Emirates when it wasn't originally priced-up and it's the 11/4 favourite? Say hello to the 2008 Emirates Derby then.

I'll chance my arm with a £40 investment.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Hmmm. Yesterday afternoon's Bettingzone Market Moves...it still remains to be seen if the gamble will be landed though. KERCHING!?

1410: Paddy Power have reported substantial support for Emirates as the new sponsor of the English Derby.

Following Friday's announcement that Vodafone are to end their 13-year involvement with the flagship sporting event this year, the bookmaker released betting on who will take their place.

International mobile phone company Orange emerged as the early favourite on Friday, but a flurry of bets over the weekend on Emirates means their odds have been slashed by Power's from 8/1 to 2/1 favourite.

Ken Robertson from Paddy Power said: "Over the weekend we laid Emirates to lose a fairly substantial five figure sum and they have now emerged as very strong favourites.

"When you look at their existing sponsorship portfolio which spans many sports it seems that sponsorship of the English Derby would be a logical fit and should work well to reinforce their brand to an English and European audience".

2008 Derby sponsor, Paddy Power bets: 2/1 Emirates, 6/1 Orange, 7/1 Eon, 9/1 Lexus, 9/1 Budweiser, 10/1 Mercedes, 12/1 Jacob's Creek, 12/1 Cartier, 12/1 Betfair, 12/1 O2, 12/1 Virgin, 14/1 Camelot, 16/1 Rolex, 16/1 T-Mobile, 25/1 Land Rover, 33/1 Moet & Chandon, 33/1 Paddy Power.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

The Jennifer Hudson bet was a winner over at betandwin. They've paid me.
The Damien Dempsey bet at Bet365 was a winner. They haven't paid me.

Big week for awards next week. This Sunday it's the BAFTAs and the Grammys and next Wednesday it's the Brit Awards. Now is the time to get busy.

The Dixie Chicks' Taking The Long Way was 2/1, was 6/4 and now 5/4...I should have gotten in much, much earlier. betandwin are allowing me a limit of £50 so I can win a maximum of £72.50. Eh....as I said I should have gotten on much earlier.

Why am I so confident? It's an Album of the Year nominee, it should win this category handily and it's a stupidly generous price even at 5/4.

The you-turn-up-you-win principle doesn't always work at the Grammys though. Ludacris is turning up to perform which may signify he may win for Best Rap Album for his Release Therapy.

I'm feeling lucky and I fancy my chances of getting two-out-of-two. 7/4 is a nice price even with T.I.'s Game Theory lurking in the shadows. £40 to win £70.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Eh. ignore that last sentence as I meant T.I.'s King which is a good saver bet at 15/4 but I'm gonna stick to my Ludacris bet. Game Theory is the album from The Roots.

I think the folks at bwin have overpriced a couple of markets specifically Album of the Year and Best R'n'B Album.

Album of the Year will either go to Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium or the Dixie Chicks' Taking The Long Way. Some pundits are split but the offshore books make Dixie Chicks the favourite whilst bwin make RHCP the favourite.

Gnarls Barkley's St Elsewhere is a solid bet at 4/5 to win Best Alternative Music Album but I'm just gonna stick £25 at 12/5 that Dixie Chicks win Album of the Year. I'd place a saver bet and get the 2/1+ that's available over at The Greek on RHCP but I'm gonna chance it.

OT: Dixie Chicks cut into 11/10 to win Best Country Album. They're heavy odds-on at offshore books! What do bwin know that the offshore books don't!?

Mary J Blige is expected to get at least five of the 8 awards she's nominated for and she should easily get Best R'n'B Album for The Breakthrough. bwin allowing me a maximum of £50 at 29/20 to find out if I'm right.

Best Pop Vocal Album's very interesting. Some murmurs that John Mayer's Continuum could win ahead of the likely winner Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds. I don't really care even at 6/1 as I'm happy with my four bets...three of the four should be long odds-on shots yet I can get them at marginal odds-against? The fun begins when I try to cash out!

OT: Corinne Bailey Rae has been suggested as the surprise winner for Best New Artist ahead of Carrie Underwood and James Blunt with some folks getting 4/1+ that she'll do it. OOOH!!

It's going to be a lousy way to end the weekend if I don't win any of my Grammy bets.

I have a couple of BAFTA bets but I didn't state 'em on here so they don't count.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Hmmm. I should have had a shot at that 6/1 on John Mayer after all.

The Brits came home empty-handed at the Grammys with only Joss Stone claiming anything of a win (and that was as part of a collaboration).

£430 back: £165 bet and £265 profit. Could have been a lot better I suppose but hey, 4-from-4!? I can't complain about that. It could have been worse...I could have bet these at Bodog!

Oh dear, oh dear. bwin are indeed bad losers...look at this!

My last two bets didn't count because they've rejected my deposit yesterday after having originally accepted my deposit on Saturday (if I'd have lost I bet they would have kept my £75!). My account balance has been reduced from £430 to £280 (the first two bets gave me back a total of £222.50 so I've no idea if giving me £57.50 is a compromise or not. I bet everything I had in my account and added some more money on Saturday.).

Should I complain and chase them up on the missing £150 and then don't bet there ever again? In the meantime...

"GO FUCK YOURSELVES, BWIN YOU BAD LOSERS!!"

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Some of you may be wondering what I'm betting on the Oscars. Well apart from a couple of ante-post bets I haven't stated just a couple of bets over at Centrebet.

£30 on The Little Matchgirl at 87/100 (1.87) to win Best Animated Short Film.
£20 on West Bank Story at 13/2 (7.50) to win Best Live Action Short Film.

There aren't many bargains but I would not like Babel to double up at the Oscars following it's Golden Globe win (I'm supporting LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!!).

Some of you may also be wondering what's happening at bwin and BT Click&Buy. For some reason, £150 has been withdrawn from my bank account into BTClick&Buy but I seemingly appear to have been given £75 for some reason (which would be fitting as that's the £75 that bwin should have owed me).

I've put £75 into Betfair and there's £150 in my BT Click&Buy 'account balance'.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

If I posted three Mondays ago, I would be saying despite my good fortune (I could have at least 'hexagoned' my money if I went all out on a balls-out single £50 play on West Bank Story...I've no idea what goes after quintupled/five times for whatever the word for 'six times' is) that I still had troubles with bwin/BTClick&Buy.

I find that I had £0 (yep, £ZERO instead of £150) in my BTClick&Buy account and that £75 was deposited into my bank account. Where had my other £75 gone to!?

I was quietly seething and I was going to stomp up-and-down and scream to the rafters about how they were in cahoots and that they've ripped me off. Not so.

They put the other £75 into my bank account this Tuesday morning. Weird way to do business. I think the situation has somehow resolved itself as my 'in' balance (£280 total, £150 in the bank and £75 at Betfair) is more than my 'out' balance (£150 taken out of my bank balance, £280 at bwin).

I may be missing something (somehow I think I ended up £75 more than I should have...I think. ) and have gone completely bonkers though...which handily brings me to my next bet.

============

Hmmm. It's that time of year again where I get humiliated (more often than per usual! ). Remember last year's 'FHM's Sexiest Woman In The World' fiasco where the UK editors nobbled the vote and somehow made Keira Knightley the winner instead of Keeley (!?).

Two 'cardinal rules' as to who the winner's supposed to be were broken:

1. The winner always gets a cover shoot (Keira has since posed for Esquire but not for FHM. Keeley got the FHM cover instead last year.).
2. The winners from all-around-the-world issues tend to be the same one.

Serves the fuckers right at FHM that the US edition has gone kaput and it'll only be online (am I a sore loser? STILL!? You bet I am! I'll find any angle to get back at 'em! ).

This year's odds from Skybet for the UK edition:

There's been another gamble on Keeley for some reason. She opened at 8/1. She's now dropped down to 7/2.

I simply have far too much money.

BET: £29 on Keeley at 7/2 that she'll win FHM's Sexiest Woman In The World title (at the second time of asking) over at Skybet. It's the maximum bet they'll allow me (probably for the best really).

I have no doubt that the UK edition will pick a UK winner for the third time in a row (the 2005 winner was Kelly Brook) and that FHM will get them to do a covershoot this time. I suppose Cheryl Cole or Sarah Harding could be a surprise spoiler as I wouldn't be surprised that shenanigans are going on between Girls Aloud's PR firm and FHM (I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Harding is more popular than Cheryl Cole in the poll either but 5/4 isn't of particular value. No Nicola Roberts!? HAHAHA!! ).

My 'outside outside tip' (that ain't a typo! It means they've got no chance and even more so because I'm tipping 'em!) if she was on the list would have been Billie Piper but only because of the Doctor Who fanboys (maybe they have more of a thing for David Tennant than Billie Piper! HAHA!! ).

There's a few prominent women on the list who stand out but they ain't British such as Jessica Alba at 16/1 (if Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was coming out right now this would be a 'big bet'), Nicole Scherzinger (lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls) at 66/1 and Jessica Biel at 100/1 (every internet blog seems to be focused on her arse) who are more likely winners based on 'hype' and 'circumstance' particularly if the US edition was still in print circulation.

Kelly Brook could repeat as a winner. I can't think of any other British woman on that list that isn't going to be derided as a terrible winner. It can't be Keira Knightley AGAIN!? CAN IT!?

NOTE: Keira Knightley was 12/1 to 16/1 to cause an upset, last year.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

I didn't realise that it was back in mid-March that I posted in my own thread. Probably a good reason as it's I've gone arse-over-tit lately (Skybet and Stan James LOVE me. ).

If you forgot it was fecking JESSICA ALBA who won. I'm not going to bother next year. FHM can go fuck themselves.

Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1020: VC Bet have launched a market on which of five high-profile Premiership stars will be sold first this summer.

Joey Barton, whose Manchester City future is set to be decided at a meeting with club officials on Tuesday, is the odds-on favourite at 10/11.

The England international is currently suspended by City after a training-ground incident involving team-mate Ousmane Dabo which could yet result in police action.

Newcastle's Michael Owen, who has been linked with a move away from St James' Park and was urged to publicly declare his commitment to the cause by chairman Freddy Shepherd this week, comes next at 7/2.

It's then 9/2 about Chelsea's Andriy Shevchenko, 13/2 against Spurs' much-coveted Dimitar Berbatov and 10/1 for Arsenal talisman Thierry Henry.

==========

It's a five-runner market called First Player To Be Sold In The Close Season.

...because I'm hemorrhaging cash at an alarming rate let's throw fuel on the fire and put £55 on at 10/11. Let's see if I can make some money on Joey Barton leaving before those four.

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky

Fecking hell! Somebody buy Joey Barton off of Manchester City's hands already! Middlesbrough! COME ON!!

I have to worry about Owen wanting out or being forced out, Barcelona getting Henry, Shevchenko wanting away (surely not as he's surely not going to as much money playing elsewhere as he does for just sitting on the Chelsea bench!). I have to assume Berbatov's not going anywhere after signing his deal.

Meanwhile...

What will the nationality of the winner of Big Brother 8 be?

I have a supreme death-wish and Gamebookers are letting me bet £101 at 27/20 that whoever wins the eighth edition of Big Brother will be English (well it'll keep me occupied over the summer).

WOW!! As soon as I placed that bet, the market vanished! WTF!? Scared of a piddly £101 bet!?

Paddy's had a similar market but they've cut the chances of an English-born winner down to 8/11.

Statistical averages suggest we're due a Welsh winner though as they've still to score one.

Wording could be very important here but I like my chances. Kind of.

Gamebookers have revised their odds on this market. You'd think a bookie that has the backing of a monster such as Party Gaming wouldn't be scared. :gett1n
