Around The World In..... A Number Of Bets

Have been lurking around the forum for some time and learnt much good information and certainly improved my betting. Been thinking what I could contribute - I could write an essay on some of the theories of betting and the best use of statistical analysis or I could share some of my vast in-depth sporting knowledge. Possibly, but as I pondered such weighty issues I felt myself being drawn like a moth to a flame to this place - I suspect it is probably my natural home and so here I shall begin.

The idea here is I start with bank of £200 and I see how much money I can make as I travel round the world - in reality I am sure it will be how far I get before the money runs out

Only rules are that at least 1 bet must be done every day and can only move to a country that borders the one I am currently in, or short sea crossings where necessary - ie no random jumps around the world.

This means it will certainly not be a direct route and there will be much meandering and back-tracking, but its not how fast you get there its how many stupid bets you can make on stuff you know nothing about.


The bets will mainly be on football, but I will always be on the look-out for other sports to throw my money away on. To stop me blowing everything in a couple of days I will be staking 10% of the bank, unless I inexplicably find something that looks great value and then I'll go up to 20%.


Anyway, it is not a great week to start something like this with most of the leagues on international break, but I have worked out a schedule for this week which takes me round much of Europe and leaves me in Turkey at the end of next sunday. There is so little football on thursday that at the moment it is a rest day which is just not allowed, so I am looking for something else on thursday in either belgium, germany or france - any ideas then let me know.


We start today where all great round-the-world trips start and that is Stockport, then up to Scotland and finally across the North Sea to spend the night in Norway.

As far as I can see there are no sporting events to bet on this evening in any of the 4 countries I can get to. But, should this stop a dedicated Rags To Riches poster, no of course not and I have found 2 markets on Betfair relating to Sweden. Disappointingly I just missed the 'Top August Temperature' market which had a whole £2 matched and would have been right up my street as I know the difference between hot & cold

First we have 'Royal Marrage' which concerns some Princess getting hitched before the end of the year - too long term a bet and as there is only £2 available at 1.02 probably best avoided.

Excitingly though there is an election in Sweden in a couple of weeks time and Betfair have a market for the next Prime Minister, so I shall carefully invest some money here.

Frederik Reinfeldt is the favourite and his odds have dropped steadily, so he will be my man. There is £10 available at 1.7 which just screams value to me, so I will take that.

Actually, not too keen on the norwegian bet, but I just could not spend the whole day in sweden as this is meant to be a journey. The swedish bet looks good value to me and have given it 15% of the bank.

Bad news on the swedish prime minister bet - I could have got better odds Now don't get me wrong, 1.7 is solid value, but betandwin (bwin my arse) go 1.8 and you can get 1.95 :loon at betandgame.

Anyway, I have planned my new route and have found another lovely little bet for tomorrow - if you love your politics you won't want to miss it

Well up early today and what a shock - the porn wasn't free at all and I just had to pay the mother of all hotel bills: So my razor-sharp gambling instincts are going to be needed more than ever on this trip if I don't want to end up as one of the great unwashed trying to survive on whatever life vomits up at them.

It is a seriously shitty list of football games today and for one horrifying moment I though I would be forced to bet on goddamn norwegian football again, but no there is one other game I can bet on....:drums .....denmark(u21) v sweden(u21) - Hoo-fucking-ray!!!!!!!!

Back again. Now it seems that at the beginning of october Austria is holding an election as well and those crazy bastards at betandwin have 8 markets :loon open to bet on.

So, I am obviously drawn to them like a fly to shit and it lets me spend the day in Austria - which is the most important thing.

I have spent around 15 minutes looking around the internet for information about this election - I do have too much time on my hands. This is important though, because I do not want it to appear that this is just some kind of random stupid bet because the rags to riches thread is no place for those

I was thinking of doing a nice little treble, but if it was to actually win I would hate to think what betandwin would do to my account. So, a couple of singles and, quite sadly, there has been more thought and research about these than for todays football bets combined.
