To be fair, although I gave the final a miss as far as betting's concerned, South Africa looked the only powerhouse to have lived up to expectations all tournament and are worthy champions indeed.

Barring the momentary scare Fiji gave them by pegging the match back to 20-20, I think they'd looked rock solid throughout the tourny although their conservative efforts at times did little for those banking on them to cover the spreads. That said, contrast their fortunes with that of NZ, Australia and France and it's hard to make a case for either of those 3 to be any more deserving than SA.

Although I don't think NZ were too bad, but as has often been the case, they've often been found wanting in a match over the course of a World Cup and that alone is more than sufficient reason for anyone's undoing.

Until 2011 then...
