Right there he "gathers" as opposed to "makes" dust down the wing.

I think Munster can do it, but I'm not especially confident. The handicap looks about right to me. You've posted some valid reasons to back Munster (i.e. O's away record), and while I think the Munster pack is not too far off the level of their A-side, I don't like the look of the backs. I remember how promising Murphy looked in 2006 - e.g. versus Sale at home - but he has been pants since he broke his leg. The fact that today is his first start, and that Kidney signed both Tipoki AND Mafi says something to me. Carney has been shocking all season. He has also never delivered a top class performance for Munster or Ireland - some moments here and there - a ball-stripping tackle and a turn and chase against the Ospreys. Payne has been class for years, and has delivered this season. I'm delighted Hurley has finally got the nod, but I wasn't writing Payne off in any sense.

Horgan is past it now, but was a fine servant for Munster and an excellent player at this level (but no higher).

You do Lewis a major dis-service. He got way more game-time with Leinster before he left than he has since. He was player of the month just three months before he left!

Snodser - the Bath result is a perfect reason to open another account or two. I won, you lost on essentially the same pick because I could use a bookie you couldn't

Re Lewis:

just looked - he has had 10+1 ML appearances for Munster this year, and 51+10 for Leinster over 4 seasons - for whom he also had 6 HEC starts and 5 appearances from the bench versus 1 appearance from the bench for Munster

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Those figures are slightly distorted by the fact that he would have gained 16-20(cant be bothered counting) of those caps when BOD and Darcy were playing for Ireland whereas mafi and tipoki have no such demands so less time for lewis. Agreed he was starting to force his way in on form towards the end of last season but would you drop either of the current munster centres? Dont think we've seen enough of him to argue his form one way or another.

I still hope Murphy makes some sort of return to form, to be brilliant for one season and then finished would be crushing for him.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Both Murphy and Lewis did ok tonight - Lewis being understated and solid - Murphy mixing some nice breaks with poor option taking.

RE Lewis and Munster - Kidney went out and bought Tipoki (and retained Mafi) after signing Lewis - so he obviously didn't rate him much. If you look at the number of games that Mick Berne and Christain Warner got for Leinster this season, you have to think that Lewis might have been better off staying put.

I'm inclined to agree there DOD that he would have been a starter in 90% of leinsters games this year, but to say kidney does'nt rate him as a bit harsh. The three centres you mention all started on level pegging at the start of the season and mafi and tipoki have been outstanding so no hope for lewis there.

Thought murphy was ok still got the step and pace but obviously lack of match sharpness. Good boost for munster before the semi.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Saracens: Haughton; Leonelli, Sorrell, Powell, Ratuvou; Jackson, Neil de Kock (capt), Lloyd, Ongaro, Johnston, Vyvyan, Tom Ryder, Gustard, Barrell, Skirving.
Replacements: Cairns, Visagie, Fullarton, Seymour, Rauluni, Ross, Penney. Wasps: Lewsey; Sackey, Waldouck, Flutey, Voyce; Cipriani, Reddan; French, Ibanez, Barnard, Shaw, Palmer, Worsley, Rees, Lawrence Dallaglio (capt).
Replacements: Ward, Payne/Holford, Skivington, Leo, Mark McMillan, Van Gisbergen, Haskell.

This will be wasps third game in nine days and worringly they are starting to pick up a few injuries to important players(walder, vickery). Todays team is a mixture of the teams that played last weekend and midweek.

Sarries were poor at Gloucester last week but have been strong at home this season. Although they're out of league contention Gaffney wont want his team being battered two weeks in a row and will be looking for a boost before the munster game.

I think this will be tight, Wasps will still have another game in hand to get back onto the top four if they dont win today.

I could see either team winning by a 2/3 pts so my pick for this one is

Sarries +5 @9/10

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Sale: Foden; Kuadey, Bell, Thomas, Ripol; Hodgson, Wigglesworth; Sheridan, Briggs, Roberts, I Fernandez Lobbe (capt), B Cockbain, Cox, M Lund, J-M Fernandez Lobbe.
Replacements: Lawson, Evans, Schofield, Hills, Cliff, Cueto, Mayor. Newcastle: Jones; Phillips, Dillon, Dehaty, Visser; Miller, Dickson; Golding, Vickers, Wilson, Parling, Tomes, Beattie, Williamson, Winter (capt).
Replacements: Long, Ward, Williams, Perry, Swinson, Young, May.

Sale a down to sixth and will be looking for maximum points today to stay in the hunt. Newcastle are fielding a B team and there A team is rubbish anyway so on paper you'd think sale at a canter.

The spread is 28pts and thats making me think a bit after backing Cardiff and Gloucester yesterday, having them cruise towards covering and then taking the foot off, aaaargh.

Sale should hammer newcastle's reserves but they played an incredibly physical game midweek and no McAllister today.

Might have a small point on under 52.5pts but the prices are crap so far.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Asleep, forgot about this..............

Cheers red

Have done zero review so on the back of reds info I'll take;

Sarries +5

Newcastle +30

all credit to the "redroar".

NB: all losses are my own fault

For those listening/reading Munster are 6/4 for the H-Cup,
after yesterdays result (Toulouse; the injuries more than the score) you should get on while you can............it won't last.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

I wouldn't go too mad. O'Gara is still a doubt for next week and O'Connell withdrew injured from yesterdays game.

Wasps -3 and Sale -28 for me in todays games

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Two good calls there DOD both my bets were hopeless by half time. Again Sarries did'nt start to play till it was long over. worrying stuff for Gaffeny. On current form munster will beat them with or without O Gara and O Connell.

Once again, Wasps WOW. 5/2 to win it outright is looking very tempting but you'd probably make more betting on them to win every match between here and the final.
