My full thoughts elsewhere but I'd agree with much of the above.

Re: Six Nations Rugby - 2007

I reckon Farrel could do a job as he's a class act and one of the best RL players over the last 10 yrs, my concern would be shoving Wilkinson into the squad and resorting back to a kicking game again, with Farrel you'll get an outlet as he has a good footballing brain and also good with his kicking, Wilkinson is a bit one way traffic as in kick, kick, kick and easy to predict.

Personally i'd like to see Farrel play at fly half and i do think he'd also bring on Robinsons game, something that Wilkinson failed to do.

Re: Six Nations Rugby - 2007

Hmmm. Yesterday's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1045: Blue Square were hit by a sustained and substantial gamble on Welsh star Stephen Jones to be the Top Six Nations Points Scorer.

Initially trading at 10/1 (fourth favourite behind Ronan O’Gara, Jonny Wilkinson and David Skrela), Jones was supported into 8/1 and then 6/1 after floods of money from all over the country.

Blue Square are now looking at a payout of £50,000 should Jones end the Six Nations as the leading points scorer.

Kate Miller, Blue Square’s PR said: "Betting interest in the Six Nations has really taken off in the last 48 hours.

"The bold selections from new England coach Brian Ashton saw plenty of support for our Jonny Wilkinson specials earlier in the week, but I have to confess that the gamble on Stephen Jones this morning was something of a surprise.

"Our senior rugby trader is convinced that Ronan O’Gara is a good thing to top the points scoring charts, so was more than happy to field money on Jones, but after taking action by cutting the price to 8/1 from 10/1, he had to take further evasive action by going 6/1 after the money continued to pour in."

Re: Six Nations Rugby - 2007

I now think Italy can win this afternoon. Always a concern about their closing ability - nailing a promising display with a win. And their goal-kicking. But they have an excellent front-row replacement bench and could keep France under the cosh for the full 80 mins. Hopefully the ft spread bet will cover the stake on:

Win Italy @11-2 at 10pts

Italy +14 @10-11 at 11pts

Re: Six Nations Rugby - 2007

Hi Pie looking i'm looking forward to the start of the six nations ,
been down the local betfred bookies and quite a few of the locals are downbeat on Wales' chances but like you upbeat about Italy. Most of the rugby punters were going the same way as you
i've taken the Italy+8 @h.t. but cannot see the French losing.
Like I mentioned earlier Michelak will be a big miss but Skrela from Stade is no mug . To see if I missed anything I went through the stats of last years internationals including the six nations. I cannot see anything that would indicate an Italian win considering their backs. The big Italian plus are their front five. Another French negative is their commitment to give everyone in their 40 man squad a game in in the six nations before the World Cup.

We must remember that the French are Champions , they lost to the best team in the world,The All Blacks , they beat S.A. away , one side that has beaten A.B's in S.A. Italy only point last season was when Wales switched offafter they thought their match was won.

The stats

Italy results

France results

Sat 18th Nov 2006 France 11 - 23 New Zealand L International Friendly
Sat 11th Nov 2006 France 3 - 47 New Zealand L International Friendly
Sat 24th Jun 2006 South Africa 26 - 36 France W International Friendly
Sat 18th Mar 2006 Wales 16 - 21 France W Six Nations

Re: Six Nations Rugby - 2007

half time score
Italy 3 - 22 France ... first bet down

Italy missed two early penalties , lost their outside half , got stopped 1 m from the line twice ... then made a mistake attacking France scored and it been oneway traffic since. The Italians were poor defensively.
