Re: Crufts 2008 - Scandal!

You a Neighbours fan per chance, keg? Or have you moved on to tumble dryer puns?

Bookmaker William Hill has stopped taking bets on which breed will be Crufts Best In Show after a flurry of interest in a previously unfancied category.
Willy, a Tibetan Terrier, was crowned Best In Show last year

The bookmaker fears there could be a "super dog" they have not heard of in the running for the top prize after a rush of bets saying the winning dog would come from the "utility dog" category.
In pictures: Crufts 2008 That category, previously not a favourite, includes breeds including bulldogs, miniature poodles and Dalmatians. On Wednesday morning the odds of the Best In Show being a utility dog were placed at 13/2 against far more fancied pastoral, terrier, hound, toy, gun and working dog classes.
Within a few hours, however, a flood of bets shortened the odds to 6/4. By early afternoon betting was closed after the price was cut to odds-on favourite of ½.

Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill said the company feared there was a "super dog" out there: "There must be an exceptional dog out there that we have not heard about.
"Normally in betting, when we shorten the price people start to back off a little and back other contenders, but that hasn't happened here and no matter how short a price we offer on a utility dog winning, people keep betting."
Another bookmaker, Paddy Power, has also reported a surge in bets placed on the utility dog category.
Organisers of the show, which opens today, say they are not aware of any "super dog". Caroline Kisko, secretary of the Kennel Club, said; "There are 23,000 dogs in the competition. It's impossible to say that there is one dog certain to win the top prize."
