Crewe By-Election

Quote:
The Conservatives are 1/7 favourites to win next week's Crewe and Nantwich by-election with William Hill who make Labour 4/1 to hold the seat and the Lib Dems 20/1 to take it
Any think Labour can win this ?
Dunwoodys daughter is standing for Labour , they also seem to be waging a dirty tricks war against the Tory candidate..
Any thoughts ...... ?

Re: Crewe By-Election

i think the negtive press for labour isnt a bad thing for their chances, the bigger the turnout the bigger their chances id imagine?

Re: Crewe By-Election

I live in the area, and although a safe Labour seat, it looks like the Tories may sneak in, based on what I am seeing.
Cannot believe the bombardment of rubbish posted through my door daily (from the Tories and Lib Dems). Would send the Save the Earth mob nuts, as a small forest must have been demolished for all this. I am amazed by the total lack of activity by the Labour mob, who have sent one leaflet through so far

Re: Crewe By-Election

Nice to get the local view
I think the majority at the last election was around the 7k mark.

Re: Crewe By-Election

Surely Labours the bet then?

I think bi-elections with big turnouts usually goto form.

Re: Crewe By-Election

The problem is, I am not sure if there will be that big of a turnout. The local Council elections only saw around the mid 30's in % voting. There is growing resentment (totally undeserved) for the Polish invasion that has hit Crewe. As usual it is the mis-informed that feel that they are missing out on work etc. because of it. The same families have been hit by the scrapping of the 10% tax band, and with the rise in prices of nearly everything (not the goverments fault), they are falling for the Tory Toff boy.
A big turnout could help the Labour party, but unless they get out on the streets, and point out that the Tories are not actually promising anything radical to change things, they will suffer a big loss.

Re: Crewe By-Election

Cons for me.It's a no brainer really.
People are fed up with Labour done fcukall in 10 years of government.
The irony is that GB has waited 10 years to be PM and totally fucks it up within weeks of getting in.
Don't forget that when he was chancellor he screwed up what was possibly the best pension system in the world.
Out with Brown and his acolytes.
Trouble is we have to wait another 2 years to get rid of these useless bastards.

Re: Crewe By-Election

Today's Bettingzone Market News:

1200: William Hill say that the Crewe & Nantwich by-election is the most one-sided in political betting history.

"We have taken in total just £45 - one bet of £20 and another of £25 for Labour to win this by-election and we face a six figure payout if - when - the Tories win," explained Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"It is the most one-sided by-election ever in betting terms. The Conservatives have gone from 4/5 favourites when the book opened to 1/33 and we have taken bets of up to £40,000 a time for them.

"They are now virtually unbackable favourites at 1/33, Labour are 10/1 and the Lib Dems 20/1."

Hills make the Lib Dems 8/1 to finish ahead of Labour who are 1/20 to finish ahead of the Lib Dems.

And with a Conservative victory seeming to be a foregone conclusion, VC Bet have opened a market on who will get the least number of votes cast.

There are ten candidates standing and the favourite at 5/4 to get the least number of votes is Paul Thorogood, who is standing under the banner of Cut Tax on Petrol and Diesel.

The Flying Brick - candidate for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party - is second favourite at 7/4, followed by former Conservative Party activist Mark Walklate at 9/4.

Miss Great Britain, Gemma Garrett has the full weight of the Sun newspaper behind her, so it is likely that she will have a reasonable amount of support and she is priced at 11/2.

1405: Paddy Power have paid out on the Conservatives winning the Crewe & Nantwich by-election (also see 1200 bulletin).

The bookie announced the payout a day early after The Conservatives were backed off the boards to steal the long-standing Labour seat. More than 90% of the betting for Crewe was in favour of the Conservatives, with Paddy Power even taking one bet of £5,000 for a Tory win at 1/6.

Coming hot on the heels of Labour's 10p tax disaster the Tories started as 2/5 favourites to win the Crewe & Nantwich seat.

The money on the Conservatives was unprecedented for a Labour stronghold and their odds were cut repeatedly all the way down to 1/6 with Paddy Power finally calling it a day today when the Tories odds reached just 1/20 today.

Paddy Power said: "It looks like Labour are going to be given an absolute Crewe cut. No matter what odds we offer, people wanted to bet on a Conservative upset in the Labour stronghold.

The Conservatives have also been cut from 1/2 to 2/5 to win the next General Election with the expected win in Crewe the final confirmation that Labour have an almighty fight on their hands.

David Cameron's Conservatives had been favourites since November 26 last year but the Crewe result, the Tories' first by-election gain from Labour in 30 years if it materialises, will be seen as an acid test to his fortunes across the nation.

Re: Crewe By-Election

Old news now but I'm so glad they got a drubbing.
They daren't get rid of GB because they have a bunch of useless nonentities and hasbeens to follow.
The Labour party have done so much intrinsic harm to this country it's almost incalcuable.
When GB and Labour finally go they will leave even more mess in their desperate attempts to revive their fortunes that it will take another ten years to get this country straight again.
Can't wait.
New Labour what a sick joke that's turned out to be.
