Re: X Factor

Songs for Saturday:

Ben: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"
Leona: "I Have Nothing" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (the Eva Cassidy arrangement)
Ray: "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Smile".

Yesterday's Bettingzone Market Moves:

2037: It's the X-Factor semi-final on Saturday night and Leona, despite a week of adverse publicity including being dubbed as "a bit Mariah Carey circa 1990", is still red hot favourite to claim the £1million record deal ahead of Ray and Bettingzone's outright tip Ben.

The only remaining female singer in the contest is as short as 1/6 with Stan James while Ben is 5/1 with most bookmakers and Ray is available at 6s.

In terms of making next week's final, Ray is 1/2 to be the next act evicted with Paddy Power who make talented rocker Ben 8/5 while Leona is way out at 12/1 with Blue Square.

Re: X Factor

Hmmm. Some of the shrewdies filled their boots in on Ben leaving (not me I hasten to add as I refused to have a bet). Ray looks likely to be a fall guy/patsy much like Mark against Michelle in Pop Idol 2...Leona isn't invincible but I'd be very surprised to see Simon have him as the winner when everything is seemingly geared towards Leona.

Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1130: Leona and Ray will go head to head in next week's X Factor final after Ben was evicted last night.

Leona is a best 1/3 with bet365 while Ray can be backed at 11/4 with Blue Square.

Re: X Factor

Been a decent X Factor for me so far betting wise - my 3 outright bets turned out to be the final 3, although Ben was my biggest bet of the 3 so not as much moolah as I'd have like. He did get me a lovely return as the top 25 and over tho.

4sure's eviction turned into my most profitable bet in any market for the last 12 months after swearing to revert to small stakes on this stuff

Lost out on the McDonalds a couple of times and Ray going when it was down to the final 4, but all in all much better than last year(which can hardly be said for the show.)

When I caught a few mins of the show last night and Ray was blubbing his eyes out on stage I knew Ben was in a bit of trouble, but its still a surprise given that Ray really doesn't seem marketable at all, and that this looks like the most one sided final for a long time(like Stereo says, probably since Michelle 'Big' McManus.)

He's got the momentum no doubt, but I really think Leonna should be 1.20 or shorter. No doubt the producers will give it all the 'closest vote in years/there's less than 1% in it' rubbish on the night (they did it last year and I really doubt Andy ran Shayne close at all) which will probably give punters the heebie jeebies over Leonna, but I don't see any way in which Ray could go on to become a big selling artist - one hit this Xmas(which might not even make No 1.) and then fade from view. Its not a given with Leonna but she's a better singer and far more marketable, and would atleast have a shot at going on to become something big. With that, and going against the usual white male winners of these type of shows, its surely in the shows interests for her to win this.

The only thing left then is the actual support both can count on - probably the most important factor. Ray does appear to have a decent base given he's made it this far on questionable talent, but did Ben/the McDonalds etc really have big support themselves? Doubtful.

Even if its close in terms of support, the final attracts far more casual viewers than usual, and if you were switching on for the first time to the show and saw the pair perform, you'd be giving your vote to Leonna and wondering how the fuck Ray reaches the final 2 of something like this.

Looks to me like a penalty kick, although this show is perfectly capable of moving the goalposts.

Re: X Factor

LOL!! The Sun's Victoria Newton is backing Liverpool's Ray! Scousers will welcome the news as much as if they just found dog shit on a new carpet.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2006570258,00.html

I will be surprised if Ray wins but in Leona's case it probably doesn't matter if she does win. It may even be better for her if she doesn't win.

If Ray wins, I put it down to Simon wanting another tax loss like Michelle McManus. No bet for me as per usual.

Re: X Factor

Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1140: Paddy Power have reported a surge in support for Ray to win the X Factor and have slashed his odds from 5/2 to 2/1 to pip Leona to the post in the Final this Saturday.

Leona is still considered the favourite at 1/3 but all the betting this week has been for the underdog Ray.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: "This weekend we’re expecting to turn over a record €250,000 on the X Factor alone. He might be the underdog but I wouldn’t rule out Ray just yet. He’s a very likeable character and now that Ben is out of the competition, his fans might turn their support to Ray."

More money on Ray. Yesterday's Bettingzone Market Moves:

He’s a very likeable character and now that Ben is out of the competition, his fans might turn their support to Ray."

1850: There has been continued support for Scouser Ray Quinn to win the X-Factor on Saturday night and the baby-faced 50s throwback is now as short as 13/8 (extrabet) to win the ITV1 talent show.

The high-street bookies have been hit too, with Ladbrokes forced into 7/4 from 2/1.

Spokesman Nick Weinberg said: "Ray has definitely got the momentum, he continues to go from strength to strength in the betting. He could conceivably go off as favourite on Saturday night."

Leona Lewis remains the 2/5 favourite with most layers.

==========

Could be a Will Young versus Gareth Gates type thing going on again. Gareth Gates was famously a 1/5 shot and Will Young was at least 3/1 but there wasn't much of a public gamble on Will Young as far as I recall.

If Ray wins, Simon wants a tax loss...Ray won't sell records in the long-term.

Re: X Factor

Simon's been going on about Ray being the favourite and Leona the underdog all night. My theory is that he's trying to encourage Leona fans to phone in, and discouraqe Ray fans. Hence Leona will win.

Re: X Factor

Haha...its all pantomime now. Ray just sang the one that Kelly Clarkson did in the final of American Idol, and sure enough turned on the waterworks whilst singing the song just like Kelly.

Then a big gospel choir walks out for the key change - thats pocket aces in X Factor speak.

He's shite but it might not matter - Leonna is gonna need some tears here...

This song that will be the 1st single just seems to have been written for Leona to be honest, Ray seeemed to be proving the "one trick pony" accusations true.

Re: X Factor

Ah right - yeah it was Kelly Clarkson's first single too I think and like you say, Ray couldn't sing it.

Having said that I didn't think Leonna did well at all either, not a patch on Shayne's Somewhere over the Rainbow which was the showstopping final song last time. No tears there either - a mention of a dying relative should see her home tho.

Re: X Factor

And so you should Slick.

Betfair has made up its mind - 1.18 Leonna and Ray touching 6.50s.

I don't really care either way as I'm even profit on both although a Ray win would be better entertainment value just for the nonsense of it all.
