Friday's
Bettingzone Market Moves:
1205: They may have remained unchanged since their compilation sometime around the 5th Century AD, but on Saturday in Lisbon the official 'New Seven Wonders of The World' will be unveiled.
And the UK's sole entry, Stonehenge, is looking unlikely to make the cut to judge from the
Betfair betting, which makes it a 3/1 chance to be included.
Forseveral weeks now, people from all over the globe have been casting their votes, either online at the official website
n7w: Vote or by phone. They've been asked to select their top seven choices for inclusion on the new list, from a longer list of 21 pre-chosen monuments and venues.
And, whilst world-renowned landmarks such as The Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu and the Colosseum are seen as near-certainties to make the new list - all are 1/7 or less in the betting - there is considerable doubt about many of the sites.
Stonehenge, which is already a member of UNESCO'S World Heritage Sites, is set to miss out according to
Betfair, as the Acropolis, the Easter Island Statues and the Pyramid of Chichen Itza in Mexico are favoured by punters for the final three slots.
Betfair's Tony Calvin commented: "It will be a major surprise if the likes of The Great Wall of China, The Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu fail the make the list, but the omens don't look great for Stonehenge. It is certainly no stone-wall certainty for inclusion.
"If the
Betfair betting is correct then even such astonishing places such as Petra will be missing out."
Who will make the final list? -
Betfair betting: 1/50 The Great Wall of China, 1/10 Taj Mahal, 1/7 Machu Picchu, 1/7 Colosseum, 2/5 Acropolis, 1/2 Easter Island Statues, 4/7 Chichen Itza, 4/7 Christ Redeemer, 5/4 Petra, 3/1 Stonehenge, 7/2 Statue of Liberty, 9/2 Eiffel Tower.
