Re: Newcastle United - A Big Club?
It all depends on what you mean by being a 'big club', if like has been mentioned a big club is all about winning things which i don't tend to agree with then no Newcastle arent a big club.
But on that count i don't think clubs like Blackburn or Cheslea are big clubs just because somebody has come in with wads of cash and won something.
If Abramovich decided to move on tomorrow and leave Chelsea in the state they once were then they could no longer be deemed to be a big club.
In my eyes a big club is one that has a huge fanbase and has regular support no matter how the team is playing, and there is only about half a dozen teams in England that could possibly fulfill that criteria, teams like Man U and Liverpool are probbaly on a different plane to the rest as they have actually won things on the back of the actual club and not by massive amounts of money from any individual.
this success has opened up a worldwide market for them which rises them above all the rest of the premiership teams but a team like Nescastle if it had had a similar amount of success would be just as big with the fanbase it has at home.
For a team that has won nothing for yrs, having the 3rd largest gates in the Prem says a lot about club.
