Steve Sidwell - to Chelsea....?

Heard this mentioned over the weekend and apparently it is in today's Daily Star.

He's a decent player yeah, but I am not sure he is good enough to play for Chelsea. Begs the question as to where he will be playing for them. Assuming there are 3 midfield slots up for grabs, we have - Lampard, Ballack, Essien, Makelele, Mikkel and possibly ginger nuts as well now.

Cant see who he would dislodge in the line up there. Thoughts?

Midfielder linked with Chelsea move

Reading manager Steve Coppell has confirmed midfielder Steve Sidwell has left the club and is now a free agent.
The move had been widely predicted during the course of the season, with Sidwell keen to move to a bigger club and improve his prospects of breaking into the England squad rather than sign a new contract to stay at the Madejski Stadium. "He's gone," Coppell said. "I know exactly where, but I'm not allowed to say."

Sidwell has been linked with a host of clubs, with speculation rife that he will join Chelsea this summer. Jose Mourinho is believed to want the former England Under-21 international as cover for John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien when they head to the African Nations Cup in January.
Sidwell joined Reading in January 2003 on a free transfer from Arsenal. He was a mainstay in last year's Championship-winning team, and has been a revelation in his first season in the top flight, helping Reading to finish eighth. In total he played 186 games for the club, scoring 30 goals.

Elsewhere, Charlton have announced that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has parted company with the club for financial reasons.

All good, decent, competent players. None of the 3 of them have/had a chance in hell of getting a regular first team place.

You list a few in front of him there AFU but your also looking at Joe Cole, Robben, SWP who can all do a midfield role depending on formation and who are all ahead of Sidwell.

Still his £50k a week will make a nice cushion for his arse when he sits on the bench but its surely a huge backwards stepping in terms of actual playing career.
