He brought in Litmanen and then couldnt figure out how to use the guy because he was just on another planet, skills wise.

Have a lot of time for Pearce as a person and a player but he's deluded if he thinks the current squad won't be hovering above the relegation zone next season unless they strengthen seriously.
City were shocking this season. He'd lost the dressing room weeks if not months ago. His tactics were bizarre and the few signings he made rubbish. Is there anyone he bought / loaned who had a good season I can't imagine him back in the Premiership anytime soon.

And most of Houllier's signings are "hall of shame" stuff. City need him like a hole in the head.

Re: CITY SACK PEARCE
Yeah various papers and forums have given any one of: Koeman, Van Gaal and Jewell.
I suppose a lot hinges on who actually buys the club, assuming they are about to be taken over.

Re: CITY SACK PEARCE
No Houllier, Van Gaal or Koeman.
Quote:
Three of the leading contenders for the Manchester City manager's job have ruled themselves out of the running.
BBC Sport understands the club is keen to appoint a continental coach and Louis Van Gaal, Ronald Koeman and Gerard Houllier were in the frame.
But Koeman's agent told BBC Sport: "Ronald has one more year with PSV and would like to fulfil the contract."
Spokesmen for Houllier's Lyon and Van Gaal's AZ Alkmaar said the duo would not consider moving to City.
Erik van Leeuwen, the press officer for Dutch side AZ, told BBC Sport: "Louis has just renewed his contract at AZ and he will not go to Manchester City.
"Perhaps in the future he might consider one of the UK's top-flight teams but certainly not at the moment."
And Lyon denied rumours that Houllier could be moving to City or even Dynamo Kiev.
"We repeat that Gerard Houllier will next year be the coach of Lyon, with whom he is under contract until June 2008," a statement on the club's website read.
Meanwhile, Koeman's representative, Gerrit Lagendijk, said: "We have spoken with two Premier League clubs in the last three weeks but not Manchester City.
"Even if Manchester City is coming up at this time, we would have to say no."

Re: CITY SACK PEARCE
Thing is, & I'm not getting into an argument about putting Man City alongside Bolton & Wigan, but those 2 clubs promoting unfamiliar managerial names from inside does tend to give the feeling that they feel theres not much out there.
City being City, the type of manager they want/feel they deserve, if currently working, is going to be at a decent sized club & therefore whys he going to gamble on chucking his current job in for City ?? Yes the takeover is a big plus point if it happens but a couple of managers also appear to have been given short thrift by the board & those things dont tend to get forgotten too quickly.
To my mind they'll end up with an up-&-coming manager to which the choice between City & his current job is no choice at all......or Neil Warnock :wasntme

Re: CITY SACK PEARCE
I'd have took Warnock a couple of seasons ago Swoops as he's the sort of manager i like but the Prem has now moved on and is now no longer an 'up and at em' sort of league.
With the protection the players get now the Premiership is shaped for foreign players as the game has become more technical rather than physical and hence the reason i think City should go for a foreign manager if they have a few bob put aside for players.
I'd still give Houllier a chance as i think he has a lot to offer and the previous experience with Liverpool will only be of benefit now as he knows the ropes etc.
I know he's not everybodys cup of tea and even a couple of scouse mates have said basically what AFU has mentioned, but as we don't expect to win the Champs league i really believe he could do a job for City.
But as Crowie has mentioned it may not even come to that as from reports his club have said no but we know that does not count for much these days, whatever the result I don't see a British manager taking us forward but just continuing the saga at City that has been going on for around 30 yrs now , so i think its time for a change.

Re: CITY SACK PEARCE
Id like Ranieri, if you look on wikipedia he has a very very good record.
Lous Van Gall would be my number 1 choice though, he did well with Barcelona and Ajax and he has turned AZ from a nothing dutch side into a very good attacking title challenging side. Didnt they beat Newcastle or Blackburn? One of the two, he played 4-3-3 with Barcelona and bought about 80 dutch players lol but I still would like him.

Van Gaal is doing well with Alkmaar but he is just carrying on the work started by Co Adriaanse who built the current AZ side.

Yeah was just going to say that. The foundations and everything were already in place prior to Van Gaal.
I really cant see any big names being too interested in this job to be honest and think someone like Paul Jewell will end up getting it.

Went to Porto for a season, won the double and then went to some obscure Ukrainian side.
Think he did a lot of work with the Ajax youth side a few years ago.

From today's paper:
Quote:

Manchester City are on the point of appointing Dutchman Co Adriaanse as their new coach. (Sunday Mirror)
|
Very good signing for them by all accounts. Not necessarily the biggest of names as he is very low key in what he does - not a superstar by any accounts. Intelligent manager who will sort that fucking club out once and for all.
