Hurrah, the new Pele signs for Liverpool...

From today's Liverpool Echo

"LIVERPOOL will step up their bid to sign Peter Crouch by increasing their £5m valuation.
Southampton have placed an extraordinary £7m price tag on striker, although Saints boss Harry Redknapp is privately resigned to losing the 24-year-old striker.

Liverpool hoped Crouch would leave for a bargain fee in the aftermath of his club's relegation from the Premiership, but manager Rafa Benitez is determined to sign the forward and negotiations will advance when chief executive Rick Parry returns to the country in a few days. "

So there we have it, a crazy piece of business IMO. How many clubs in the shit get relegated and then name their price for a player of Crouch's quality. One would think that Liverpool were in the driving seat, but apparently not.

Anyhow, out with the old and in with the new - Crouchy - the new hero of anfield

crowie - aye tis a suprise. I would rather Crouch (proven pedigree) over Raul anyday of the week but the amount he is going for made me drop off my chair. 1 or 2 mil is a fair price in my opinion - apparently his wages have been halved to £4500 a week. He is desperate to leave, and Saints will need the cash.

Crouch is Niall Quinn in disguise. Dragging out the cliches here but for a big man his touch is ok and he’ll be able to add some variety to the attack. It wouldn’t strike me that Cisse would play particularly well off him. If they buy him surely he’d be best served playing alongside a “fox in the box” type ? He’s not a bad player to have on the bench in my view but the price is well saucy given the circumstances.

Why the big fuss about Crouch - he had one good season, be surprised if he managed it again. Flopped at Villa - Now he is in England squad and Liverpool are after him? The worlds gone crazy.

And i think your crazy to say you'd rather have him over Raul - true Raul hasnt had the best of times in the last 2 seasons for club or country. I think he needs a new challenge to be honest as his appetite seems to have gone. But you cannot deny the mans class - he is a top top player, he has done it all almost, in europe and country - Crouch is nowhere near him.

Yeah i know he had a good season etc - but can he do it for another season? Thats the question - he was useless at Villa, and for a part of this season at the start was the same for Southampton. I definately think there is better players around that they should go for - Bellamy for one, the guys a twat but you cant deny his football talent.

Aye Crouch did nothing really for a few years, he had a good season last year and hit some form, but that price tag is way inflated. He is an out Championship player, dont think he's Premiership class.

£7m???
