Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
as i said afu a team drifting without any real leadership, i think rafa knows he will not be there next season[if he lasts to the end of this one.] this was meant to be the season of the big challange for the league but they have faded like one of komps white socks.

I will agree with you on a couple of points here Tom and thats being generous because (a) you are scottish and (b) you are nearly always wrong when it comes to Liverpool.
I think the team lacks decisive leadership.
I think Benitez is almost a 'lame duck' manager and is quickly losing the dressing room. Gerrard has had his wish now for a couple of seasons and played solely in the centre of the park and isnt playing well for club nor country. It was established very early on that Benitez was not allowed to challenge this and Princess Stevie would not play in a more forward role nor was he prepared to play out on the right wing.
Our system at the moment doesnt break down teams and we dont create enough. Gerrard wide right might allow this to happen and would also allow Lucas/Alonso to play more often. Gerrard is not flexible and Rafa cant force him to be.
Rafa doesnt have the backing of the board, that is clear to see. Rather than sack him and cause outrage, it seems they are willing to let the situation fester and almost let the club die a slow death - by neither backing nor sacking him. Its horrible to see it happen you know.
A manager the hierachy dont have faith in, players that are confused and disappointed by a lack of direction, authority and leadership and two owners who are out of their depth and out of money.

Think you're doing Valencia a big favour in that comparison, AFU. 6 leagues, 6 cups, 3 UEFAs and a Cup Winners Cup. That's pretty much Everton's level rather than Liverpool's, I'd say.
Still, look on the bright side, you're doing better than them this season.

I wouldnt use trophies as the main judge of a club's size. I would look at turn over and ability to finance players.
Very soon, we could well find outselves being consistantly out spent by Villa, City and Spurs - its pretty much nip and tuck with them as it stands at the moment.
Trophies and history count for pretty much funk all.

Interesting stuff AFU and pretty honest. Don't think I have seen many Pool fans willing to criticise Steve Gerrard Gerrards role.
Do you think he is becoming a bit of a Shearer type figure at the club ie bigger/more important than anyone else there including the manager?

Deloitte Football Money League - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Now I know that's not a definitive guide to a club's finances, and the most recent one published is for 2 seasons ago, so also before the Americans came in at Liverpool, but there's no Valencia on that list (although they were on the 2004-05 list). Even West Ham are above them.
Having said that, it does back you up on your point that you're behind the top 3 in a financial sense. I'm just being picky, but I don't really see that much of a similarity between Liverpool and Valencia.

Without doubt he is too big for his boots Crowie.
You know yesterday when Benitez took off Kewell, Gerrard stood hand on hips staring at the bench, shaking his head.
What does that sort of body language do for the team? What message does it pass on to the players about who is in charge?

The worst thing is mate, the gap gets bigger and bigger each year. They sign better and more expensive players. We're fucked.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
The first question the selection panel should ask the candidates for the next Manager's job at Liverpool should be ..."Where would you play Harry Kewell?". If they burst out laughing, put them on the short list.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
He had a few decent games back after injury but yeah he's shit and doesnt deserve a place in that team any more than Le Tallec or Pongolle. He will never deliver on a consistant basis. However the main problem is that we dont have the budget to buy a replacement.
Like I said, Benitez tried to replace him 3 1/2 years ago with Simao and has tried to find a left winger since but we dont have the cash. Until last year, even Zenden got a game for us on the wing FFS.

Torres has just limped off the pitch in Spain's game holding his right hamstring.
Fuck.
