Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Don't be still afu, If you're going to be compare teams you've got to compare them on level ground, and look at how they've played against the same opposition, ie in the Premiership.
Goals scored
Man Utd 70
Chelsea 58
Arsenal 63
Liverpool 57
Tottenham 62
Of course, you're going to say you haven't played the same opposition, so to be fair I will report back at the end of the season, when everyone has faced the exact same teams the same number of times, and Liverpool will still be 5th out of that lot.
Now please listen carefully to this bit, I shall even put it in bold. I believe that it doesn't matter how you get results. If you want to win every game 1-0 that's fine. To claim that Liverpool are some great attacking machine is ludicrous - it is quite clear that they get results by stopping their opposition from playing, and relying on the quality of Torres and (to a lesser extent) Gerrard for goals. Liverpool are entertaining only to those who support them. Does that matter? No. But it does mean that Fabregas was talking perfect sense.

Oh, and Chelsea are the same, but they're just slightly better at boring their opponents into submission right now.

Chelsea won 2 straight Premierships and played hurrendous, boring, turgid football for 2 straight years. Do their fans mind? Do they fuck.
Does a football team exist to entertain paying customers?
Or does it exist to win trophies and consequently be a source of pride for the community and its fans?

I totally agree, you obviously missed my post above where I highlighted this fact in bold.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Gary Ablett's kids have tonight won the reserves league, at a canter. 7 clean sheets on the row so far as well apparently.
Well done lads, I expect to see Insua, Nemeth and Plessis making the transition to the full team by the end of the season, no?

I have seen most the matches on LTC TV this season and they've really impressed me. Most reserve teams are full of aged professionals, first teamers being punished and local lads who wont make the grade. Benitez has adopted a Wenger-esque attitude to his reserves - basically pilfer the world's best academies and nab their players. It appears to be paying dividends.
We will have 2 or 3 players in the first team from this crop before long. There are some real gems in the reserves - Bruna will be a star if he can beef up and develop physically. Plessis reminds me a bit of Momo, he's quite leggy but very physical and is a beast of a man for someone so young. As I've said before, Kristian Nemeth is a legend in the making.
With some young players, you get the feeling they wont cut it. Either their touch isnt good enough, they arent physical enough or they just dont have that special something. Jordy Brouwer is one of those that wont make it in any of Europe's top leagues - but his strike partner Nemeth will be better than Torres! He's awesome!
