Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Ridiculous amount of money for him imo, not that i have anything against Keane as I've said hundreds of times to people we should buy him since his wolves days as he's a good player but I've never understood why he has gone for relatively small money all his career and now he's coming to the end of it Liverpool lump in for him @ £20 million+, he's never changed throughout his career and is the same player now as he was then, strange one this and Spurs must be rubbing their hands as I think its a bit over the top for a decent player who always gives 110% but investment wise there won't be much return if it doesnt work out.

Completely agree here Slick.
I think he is a wonderful player but £20m is a ridiculous price for him. Amazing when you see players like Ronaldinho go for £15m and Etoo the same price being touted.
Spurs have come off brilliantly as they have given themselves a huge sum to go and find a world class replacement and Villa will be the man I would think and that would be enough for Berbatov to maybe stay another season?
How do you Liverpool fans think Keane is going to fit in? Will he be a regular starter? I can't see thathappening and won't be surprised to end up seeing him pushed out to play wide.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
I agree with what's been said with the exception to coming to the end of his career, he's 28 isn't he? he's just been around along time, i think he can have three succesful years minimum with us, maybe as many as 7 or 8.
Another thing i like about the buy and think he's worth the money is his premiership quality and experience, this is the way forward for me, Barry was another Prem target worth paying big money for, and if we dont get him now we'll get him a year later for nothing.
Liverpool could have some good, young reserves coming through into the team this year too and as always i'm optimistic pre season again

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
I was chatting with a few lads in the gym last night about our newest number 7, they were keen to hear my opinions.
£18m is the initial fee, with more based on winning stuff. Is that a lot of money for a player? Well that depends on how you look at it. When you compare it to Darren Bent’s fee when he moved to Spurs or that of Andy Johnson to Fulham – it seems almost a bargain. On the other hand, you can look at Santa-Clause’s move to Blackburn or Torres’ move to us last season and then it might seem expensive.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the same is true for value – a player is worth as much as a club is prepared to pay and whether or not it is value will largely depend on what we win over the next 3-5 years.
If, (and it’s a big IF), we win a Premiership and a European Cup in a 3 to 5 year stretch because of Keane – the fee will seem like a bargain. If we win a league cup and an FA Cup and fail to make an impact on the Premiership – I am sure people will deem the move a flop.

I think the signing is quite a brave/bold one. It reminds me of the Sheringham situation of 10/11 years ago. The manager wanted to bring Teddy in when he was at Spurs but the board wouldn’t sanction the money for such an old player. He went on to win trophies galore at United.ffice ffice" />
If he unlocks the potential in this team and ‘makes us click’ then it’s a bargain signing at that price.
I’d sooner have Keane than someone like Michael Owen in my team (bear in mind that Keane costs us £2m less in wages a year too). I think Keane will have a lot to offer into his mid thirties. He’s a clever player, a leader and someone who doesn’t rely purely on pace.

Another excellent point from my learned friend. As a sad cunt with nothing better to do, I watched most of our reserve matches last year. Gary Ablett's youngsters won the reserve league and in the two preceding years, LFC won the youth FA cup too.
Names such as Pachecho, Nemeth & Insua will be first team regulars within a season or so I reckon - plus we've got a few good squad players like Darby, San Jose and Plessis in the offing as well. Such youth projects take time to come to fruition but I can see that years of robbing youth players from accross Europe is starting to pay off.

Ronaldinho is a work-shy cunt who wanted £200'000 a week from City.
Keane is a hard worker, versatile, good personality, captain at club and international level and 'only' costs in the region of £80'000 a week.
There's no comparison between the two.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
I wouldent compare the two either, he may come cheaper but his wages are astronomical but he is class and needs to be in a side likewise where they can afford to carry him while he does what he wants, Liverpool at the moment wouldent be able to accomodate him , neither would City and one of the reason's I'm glad he passed us by.
Liverpool have bought Keane as a work horse and no doubt also to add a bit of bite on the left , I'll be very surprised if you manage to get 7 yrs out of him due to his workrate as it will only drop from now on in and the reason why I thought the price was riduculous, he's no world beater but a solid club player who won't let anybody down, whether he's the type of player Liverpool need to go to the next level is another matter but we'll soon find out.
As I say I'm not knocking Keane as he's the sort of player I would love in my side but not at that price.

Gareth Barry believes his protracted £19m move from Aston Villa to Liverpool will be finalised over the weekend once Villa accept a restructured offer. (Daily Mail)

Is he coming or staying? I reckon we might, just might have him for the start of the season

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
He'll be a good asset Kopp as he's got the potential to become one of the best left sided midfielders in the world and probably the best in the Prem at what he does imo, solid midfielder who can also defend, Quite surprised Man U havent shown any interest tell the truth as its ok having plenty of attacking players but there are times when u have to consolidate when your ahead and he'd be ideal to bring on to replace Giggs or whoever else the rags may play on the left , suppose they have carrick and Hargreaves who can cover but Barry would certainly add a lot of extra options and strength to their squad.
So a great catch if u manage to pull it off, will also be beneficial to England too as he gets a greater understanding of working alongside Gerrard.

Rangers v Liverpool on LFC TV now if anyone's interested. Only another clean sheet and four goals to watch though.
