Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
i was worried it was going to be a bowl shape like most new grounds, a certain group of fans have had an imput and the yanks have listened, they recon the actustics are spot on . an 18k kop cant wait , on a good night 12k make some noise . cant wait

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
I think its pretty good actually. I mean considering what we could have ended up with it's alright.
Its not just another soul less bowl like nearly every other stadium that gets built, its got a bit of something extra and is distinctive. Bit disappointed with the actual drawings though. I dont think they look very professional but I am sure the finished article will be spot on.
We are building it as a 60'000 seater with the provision for 20'000 extra seats to be added if we get the planning permission. The clever bit is that it will be finished for 2010 and if we get planning permission, the capacity on opening day will be circa 80'000. So basically, we arent going to have to re develop at a later date to add the seats. Start work now, get the planning permission and when its finished it will be the biggest club stadium in England.
Im sure it will pale into insignificance when compared to Everton's Tesco Value ground though.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Oh and as for Gilette and Hicks - top boys.
This stadium looks nothing like the original that was penned a couple of years back. The one tier kop, the arked roof to retain more noise and the design itself has had input from the fans.
Hicks and Gilette have come into the club and turned it around. They have moved this club further forward in 6 months than Parry and Moores managed in 6 years if we're honest. Hats off.
There is also going to be another 1892 block in the new ground. For those that dont know, The 1892 block is at the back of the Kop and is an area for those who want to sing, chant and stand up during the game. This season sees the launch of it. Its a fans' initiative and Hicks and Gilette made it possible. For years the 'club' had stood in the way of the fans trying to organise something like this and were very inflexible. Within a couple of months of the Texas Rangers taking over, it is there.
Class!

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Yet another development in the Gabby Heinze saga - he has hired lawyers to take Man U to court, should Ferguson still refuse to sell.
These lawyers are non other than Hill Dickinson, who also by chance happen to act for Liverpool Football club no less. Another symbolic gesture, designed to rub their noses in it? I think so.
Still, Fergie is refusing to budge on the matter and apparently Heinze has been told to return to Old Trafford for 6th August to prepare for the new season.
And we continue...

YouTube - Riise freekick, funny American commentary
It made me laugh anyway. Thought that commentator was taking the piss at first, but that is genuine commentary from ESPN. What a prick.

Well MrM', what we need is for your lot to put as much effort into beating Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal as what you put in against us and we might just finish top 2.

Re: The Official Liverpool thread 2007/08
Good stuff coming out of the club today, Parry is quoted as saying that our spending for the summer is not over.
Rather alarmingly though, the fans seem to want David Villa or another striker. I would push for a left back or a left midfielder myself.
Quote:
Rick Parry admitted excitement is high at Anfield ahead of the new season and revealed the club's spending may not yet be over.
As he returned with the squad from Hong Kong on Sunday morning, the Reds chief executive spoke of his satisfaction at the way the summer has evolved in terms of new signings and insisted Liverpool will always be in the market for quality players.
"There's always a lot expectation but there's definitely a special buzz about the upcoming season. We're all excited with the new signings we've made and genuinely happy with what we've done," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"It was important to get them in as early as possible so that Rafa could have more time working with them. Bringing players in on the last day of the transfer window is never ideal. It was good for our new players to have been involved in the training camp out in Switzerland and then in Hong Kong.
"That doesn't mean to say we'll now be standing still. A lot of clubs have spent significant amounts of money this summer, like Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea. Then there's a number of other clubs who've recently also had new investors, such as Newcastle, and there's still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window.
"If a player becomes available and he's the right player for this club then yes we will be interested."
