Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

Acutally here's my take on it...

Mark Hughes will be out of there next summer. He wasnt hired by them and isnt a big enough name for the new owners. Equally, he wont like the interferance thats bound to surface. Just wait til January and you have Sheikh Ya Booty picking players for the squad left right and centre - he wont like it one bit.

Its all rosey at the moment, give it 3 or 4 games without a win and we'll see how patient the new owners are.

Sounds about right , it will be a shame because i think hes a decent manager , he could even be a great one if , and its a big if , they give the guy a year or two , thats the trouble with football , no manager gets a decent crack at it , its all down to the owners and the press ...

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, no manager gets a decent crack at it. Well most dont anyway.

Fans are all experts these days, they all know best and very few are prepared to give a new boss time. And its even worse where owners are concerned.

If City hit a rocky patch between now and January I can see the new owners asking questions before the next transfer window. Such is the nature of the game these days. You've just got to hope that City fans rally round Hughes come January so the new owners see they cant dictate policy and sack him.

Didn't they already try that with Shinawatra when he sacked Eriksson? Fat lot of good it did them.

WTF are you lot talking about?
Has Hughes been sacked and I dont know?
You already seem to have him sacked and are blaming our new owners for basically err not doing anything other than back Hughes , you sound worse than the fukin media.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

Keem, its an inevitability mate. The sort of billionaire that buys a football club wants a say in the running of it, more often than not and Mark Hughes seems to be the sort of principled character that wont stand for that.

If, come January, Hughes has a list of 3 or 4 players that he wants to sign and the Arabs go out and sign 4 completely different players, would he stand for it? No fucking way.

Dare I say, he's from the Ferguson school of management and the likes of Roy Keane, Mark Hughes and old Red Nose himself wont stand for interfering Chairmen.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

We can't guestimate what these arabs will do as there not the Abramovich type of billioniare, they seem content to let things run there course for the time being and from what I've read arent expecting instant success.

were only 7 games into the season so best to see what the future brings in its own time, Hughes has allready shown with the 'old' Ronaldo saga he aint going to let others dominate his choices and I have a feeling he'll go on his own accord if others start buying in players without his say so.

I've also no doubt Hughes knows what players he needs as much as the fans do and will fix that problem as soon as he gets the chance probably next summer and then we'll see how far City have come , best to sit tight until then and enjoy the ups and downs this season will bring as there will be many.

I never expected us to beat Liverpool and was pleasantly suprised to see us go 2 up but it was no shock to see us get beat as we need two defenders and an experienced goalie, Hart will be a great keeper in time but for the moment he's still learning his game and it shows in his rash decisions.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

What do we reckon, will City beat Newcastle tonight to enter the top half of the table or will their points tally still be in single figures come tonight? Surely not good enough for the richest football club in the world with ambitions of winning the league or Champions League football at the very least...? Maybe Sheikh Al Camel-Jockey will get itchy feet then sack Hughes and bring in a quality manager with International pedigree like Jurgen Klinsmann or maybe Ruud Gullit - who knows? Worrying times at 'crisis club city' at the moment I think you'll all agree.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

your really shitting it AFU , and quite right as it's you we are after next season.

Your luck will run out soon enough and while Chelski put on a masterclass with no J Cole , A Cole , Ballack , Carvalhio, Deco (for 80 mins), Essien, Drogba, you struggled to beat 10 man Wigan , it's gonna be another year without a title for the deluded Pool fans stuck in their glorious 80's past with taches and curly perms.

Tell you something gents, City ain't gonna win many games away from home if tonight is anything to go by.

Playing against ten men and happy to have three players standing on or near the half way line (covering the one attacking player presumably) in the last ten/fifteen minutes.

Not good enough by a long way. First time I've seen Robinho for a full game so I'll give him another chance before I slag him off.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

City at the moment are either very very good or very very bad theres no inbetween, its just a continuation from the back end of last season and just throwing Robinho into the mix won't change that at the moment.

His buy is just to show intent that City are serious about their aspirations and attract other top players as soon as the transfer window opens , I don't expect much to come through in January but I think come Summer them we'll see some serious comings and goings at City.
Were not kidding ourselves at City as we don't expect to get anywhere this yr and know we have big problems in at least 4 or 5 positions but the nucleus is there with Robinho, SWP, Ireland , Johnson, Richards and Petrov to create a top side and if the likes of Onohua, Sturridge , Evans, Zableta etc come through too as expected then it won't be long b4 City will be challenging for major Honors.
At the moment its the defence letting city down as were averaging probably 3 goals a game and still mid table, Harts a bit inexpereinced too but has the ability to be a cracker in yrs to come but for the moment we need a class expereinced keeper and I'm pretty sure Hughes will buy one sooner rather than later once he gets the chance.

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

Well said slick , I expect the shitty press to say that the richest club should be winning every game when they know quite well we only had 1 day in the market with our new owners but you dont expect to hear that rubbish here.
We were poor today but when we needed big players to step forward we had Robinho threading a ball for Ireland to score an undeserved equaliser so it's a point gained from a good showing from the mags

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

Jo was shite, Robinho has been average when I've seen him - TBH their best players are still Dunne and Ireland...

Lets assume that City carry on with this mixed bag up until Christmas and are on around 22 points say halfway through the season, which is a reasonable assumption based on current form. Will the owners be happy to give Mark Hughes the money he needs to strengthen the squad in the transfer window? Will they have the confidence in Mr Hughes to hand over a wedge of cash to revive the underperforming team? Or will they sack him and bring some puppet manager in?

I'm telling ya, these big money owners arent all they've cracked up to be...

Re: The Official Manchester City thread 2007/08

I've not been to impressed with Jo from day one tell the truth but he's still young and has time to learn he ropes in the Prem, allthough i remember saying the same thing about Samaras.

As for Hughes I think he'll be given a chance with a fair crack at the transfer market after all he's not really brought in any players yet off his own back apart from Zableta and Berti oh and I nearly forgot Ben Haim, even if he were to go on current form and a better manager brought in I don't think there would be many complaints as long as they invest in the team.

You're absolutely right in a way. Some players take time to adjust to the rigours of the English game and need a while to adapt to the Premiership.

On the other hand, some players dont cut it after day 1 and still dont a season later.
