Chelsea To Play More Attractive Football?

Quote:

Looking ahead to the new season, Mourinho sent a warning to midfielder Michael Ballack, saying he is looking to ditch the diamond formation which best suits the German star.
"I want to go back to wingers and play attacking football," Mourinho explained. "The objective of having players like Robben, Cole, Malouda and Kalou is because we want to give width to our game, to give speed, to give creativity.
"I don't want to play football with a diamond any more. "So I don't think it will be easy for Ballack. But he's a top player, a top personality and I think he's the kind of guy ready to fight for a place."
Firstly...Suits Ballack? The formation didn't work at all for him last season but there you go.

Look forward to this change actually as i felt Chelsea were most dangerous couple seasons back wtih their wingers such as Duff and Robben running riot.

They were playing some brilliant stuff with the best of it coming in the home destruction job of Barcelona.

Last season they changed to accomodate players and it wasnt nearly as effective and made them one dimensional.

I wonder if Rafa will change his tactics now too

Re: Chelsea To Play More Attractive Football?

Believe it when I see it Kiko. Mourinho is a pragmatist. All his teams have been functional. For him winning is everything and I don't see how he will change his spots and go down the freestyle route. I'd also question whether he has the players to go from winning ugly to winning with style. I could see Chelsea regressing further this year to be honest. If United's new players bed down quickly and Liverpool fulfill the potential of their new signings they might be battling Arsenal and Spurs for 3rd spot. He needs a few more new faces to spice things up.

No need to change them.

A win's a win.

I would settle for functional, effective football over glamorous football with no end product anyday of the week. As would Mourinho I expect.
