Hatton to fight Mayweather
Ray Hatton has been on the radio today and has announced that a deal has been struck that will see Ricky Hatton fight 5-weight champion, Floyd Mayweather, later in the year.
It is expected that the fight will be in either November or December in Las Vegas.
Good stuff and I for one cannot wait. Fight of the century.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
heard this earlier myself on Talksports, I don't know about fight of the century AFU but i'm certainly looking forward to it and seeing how Hatton fairs against a class boxer thats not over the hill.
It'll be Hattons toughest fight to date and one that i just cannot see him winning, we'll talk about it more once its confirmed as nothings in black and white yet but its certainly a mouth watering prospect.

Deffo fight of the century Slick. The heavyweight division has been non existant for years, there is a lack of good fights and good fighters these days - this is the first big glamour fight this century. Pity they cant get Calzaghe/Hopkins on the undercard. That's be some night!

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
Soz i forgot were in the 2000's i was thinking yrs back to the Leonard, Duran, Hearns and Hagler days.
Still i'm not convinced it'll be the fight of the century to date as i still think Hatton is over hyped and totally forgot about Calzaghe who imo is one of the best British boxers ever and highly underated, Truth be told i'd rather watch Calzaghe/Hopkins as i can see Mayweather kicking Hattons arse like Barrera did to Nazeem as soon as he fought somebody half decent.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
Mayweather is coming down a weight for this fight whereas Hatton is moving up a weight. Hatton normally fights dead on 10 stone, whereas this one will be at the 10 stone 7 weight. Giving away 7lb to a beast like Mayweather could be a big mistake.
He has to decide whether to try and put on 7lb of beef in 5 months, or whether he wants to fight as he is and hope he's stronger.
Very interesting situation indeed.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
I just nipped onto Bet365 to see if we could get anything around evens for Mayweather as i thought they may have scored the bout evenly with all the hype but they have done there homework and the odds look about right to me..
9 Dec 03:00 Ricky Hatton 2.62 v Floyd Mayweather 1.44
As AFU has allready metiononed it a big ask for Hatton to move up a weight and fight somebody of Mayweathers class as his last fight at welterweight shown when he looked pretty lathargic and in my eyes actually lost the fight against Collazo, his punches just did not penetrate and he can expect no change from Mayweather.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
Mayweather 100% deserves to be a proper favourite and he is. Even at those odds if I were to bet on either I would still go for Mayweather. Might get 4/6 nearer the time, if I got that id be tempted.

Nah AFU, Mayweather v De La Hoya earlier this year was a much bigger fight than this one will be. Richest fight in boxing history, Mayweather v Hatton will have to go some way to top that.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
Oscar was past it Crowie. This might not have all the hype in America, but as a boxing fan it is a better contest. I suspect Hatton will learn from his past mistakes (trying to put too much weight on too quickly) when he moved up the weight before.
I reckon Hatton will fight him at his normal weight and hope that his natural ability/strength will see him through.
Fascinating fight

I'd say you're deffo wrong Andy.
2-weight world champion, unbeaten at either weight.

Re: Hatton to fight Mayweather
I honestly think Hatton will beat Mayweather. If you like at the fighters that have troubled Mayweather, Castillo and De La Hoya, they were pressure fighters who rained punches to his body and arms.
Granted, Mayweather had the greatest defencive skills in boxing today but I still don't think he's fought anyone who is as heavy handed as Hatton when it comes to body shots. He applys pressure, picks spots and unleashes body shots like guys who're much heavier than him.
I'm basing a lot of this on watching the blown up Mayweather that fought De La Hoya and wasn't particularly mobile. This is the sort of showing I've seen more of from Mayweather in recent fights and, if he fights like that against Hatton, I think he'll lose.
