Jol To Go?

Quote:
Tottenham boss Martin Jol's job remains under threat because he has lost the confidence of several top officials at the club, BBC Sport understands.

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos is in line to replace Jol, although the Spaniard's agent has denied links with Spurs. BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard says some officials are not sure Jol can deliver regular top-four Premier League finishes.
Think this is all a bit premature is it not?

We are only 3 games into the season and although Spurs have been poor so far its too early to be unsettling the team and bringing someone in.

I like Jol a lot...Good honest manager who has finished 5th two seasons running now isnt it?

When was the last time a Spurs manager did that?

I think he will come good in the end and has amassed a squad filled with quality and bar the Bent signing i think he has made some decent ones to be honest.

Re: Jol To Go?

I think this is about more than just 3 games. There must be a rift between Jol and his coaches and the management team in general. He has more points on the board than Man United and no one is calling for Fergie to go.

I think Daniel Levy the Spurs Chairman, Jol and Damien Comolli, the Sporting Director have had a fall out. Comolli chooses the players for the club, Levy does the finances and Jol picks the team.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. I think Jol is being undermined by players and some of the management team alike. Which is a shame because I think he is a nice bloke and hasnt really been given a fair crack of the whip. People talk of Jol spending "X" on new players over the summer, but they should remember that it isnt actually Jol that spends the dosh. Nor does he choose who the board buys.

If Spurs have bought badly and are heading in the wrong direction - it isnt a fault of Jol in my eyes.

Re: Jol To Go?

Wish I got on Jol to go earlier but here are today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1010: There's a massive gamble brewing on Martin Jol becoming the first Premier League manager to leave his post and the Spurs boss is now odds-on.

The pressure had appeared to ease on Jol after Tottenham hammered Derby 4-0 at the weekend and despite more rumours about his future Hills pushed him out to 5/1 from 7/2 yesterday afternoon.

But with Jol dominating the back pages of today's newspapers, punters are steaming in.

The Sun reports that Jol is on the brink of the axe after an amazing row over Dimitar Berbatov while The Daily Mail says that Tottenham have drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace him as manager.

Jol was as big as 50/1 with Blue Square a few days before the season started, making him the second safest manager in the Premier League (only 66/1 Sir Alex Ferguson was bigger).

But Blue Square are now offering just 8/15 that the axe will fall on him first.

Re: Jol To Go?

Eh. Just as I posted that there's more Bettingzone Market Moves:

1115: With the uncertainty about Martin Jol's position causing confusion over his immediate future, William Hill have removed him from their Sack Race betting and opened a new market without him.

"The only people looking to back Martin Jol to be the first boss to go are those who believe they know rather more than we do - and as they almost certainly do, we are not inclined to hand them an early Christmas present by continuing to quote them odds," said Hills boss Graham Sharpe.

"So we have taken the decision ourselves to sack Martin Jol from our list and bet without him - making Sammy Lee 7/4 favourite to be the next Premier League manager for the chop."

Hills have taken bets for Jol to be the first to go at odds of up to 9/1, at which price one customer staked £300.

"We will face a modest, five figure payout should Jol be the first boss out, and don't believe that punters with inside information have been taking advantage of the odds on offer," added Sharpe. "But if we carried on betting we would most certainly be at the mercy of those with access to sources close to the club - and would deserve all the financial punishment we would undoubtedly receive."

Sevilla boss Juande Ramos has been installed as Hill's 2/5 favourite to become the next permanent Spurs manager. They make Marcello Lippi 4/1 second favourite, with Jurgen Klinsmann at 5/1 and Harry Redknapp 8/1.

Re: Jol To Go?

Spurs will come unstuck if they start playing silly buggers with managers again, there nearly as bad as City for swapping and changing.

He should be given a medal for getting 18 million for carrick and bringing in some class players like Berbatov where he could nearly double his money allthough the price he payed for Bent was a bit extreme IMO.

Its way to early yet to even contemplate getting ridding of him after the recent money he has spent on new players as they still need time to bed in, the main problem Jol will have is trying to break into the top 4 which would be hell of a task for God even if he were at the helm there.

Re: Jol To Go?

Barring a last minute Ram-raid for Juan 'the man' Ramos, it seems that Jol is safe for the time being at least.

Apparently, the board have laid down conditions for Martin Jol to remain in his job. He needs to bring Champions League football to Spurs, so a top 4 finish basicially or he's out.

They have been more consistant over the last 2 years than for God knows how long and yet the Spurs board (and the fans too) seem to be doing everything they can to de-rail the club.

Why oh why oh why?

Then again, I think we have our reason here why Spurs are and always will be an also ran. Consistancy is what you need, not crisis after 3 games when you sit above Manchester United in the league table, on 3 points.

Re: Jol To Go?

Sevilla are saying that Ramos is staying with them until at least June. Bit unlucky for whichever twat backed Jol to be the first managerial change in the Premier League on Betfair at 1.01, though Only 29€, but still, I'm sure it was worth it for that possible 29 cents profit

Martin Jol will remain in his role as manager of Tottenham after Sevilla boss Juande Ramos turned down the offer of a £3m three-year deal to take over at White Hart Lane. (Daily Mirror)

Ramos, who is still in talks with Spurs, is unlikely to replace Jol because the Sevilla coach wants to eventually become Chelsea boss. (Daily Star)
So is it really a vote of confidence for Jol, or a situation where no one else with join 'em?

Re: Jol To Go?

Hmmm. Fabio Capello is in London, is seen stepping out of a hotel near Heathrow Airport and denies that he's been interviewed for the Spurs job?

Sportinglife.com - CAPELLO PLAYS DOWN SPURS LINK

Yeah it could very well be that the tabloids have put 2+2 to make 5 but it's a heck of a coincidence. Representative in England...for a job in the US!? Anyhoo. Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

0940: Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has again backed Martin Jol, saying he's 100% behind his manager, but bet365 aren't convinced.

The online firm still make Jol 7/4 favourite in their Sack Race market, just in front of Bolton's Sammy Lee at 15/8.

Middlesbrough's Gareth Southgate is 8/1 third favourite to be the first Premier League boss to leave his club while Birmingham's Steve Bruce comes next at 10/1.

The pressure could grow further on Jol at the weekend with Spurs away to Manchester United on Sunday. Bolton host Reading.

Jol would be no loss imho,1 win in 25 against the top 4 is a dreadful statistic and there the matches that count, nice bloke but its time to move over.Daniel Levy aint going to sit there and watch us get beat in all the matches that matter,as soon as he gets his man whoever that is Jol is history.

Perhaps if your trying to break into the top 4 but relistically Spurs are not. Let me rephrase that, they are trying but they arent currently a top 4 club, not with any manager. I would say as long as they beat the teams from 6th down then they are doing everything right. Madness if Jol was to go.

Spurs boss Martin Jol is back on the brink of the sack after their calamitous 3-3 draw at Fulham on Saturday.
Does anyone else feel as if Martin Jol has had a bad deal here?

His side outclassed Fulham on Saturday and were outdone by a fluke goal that took a deflection and looped over Robinson and a stunning last minute equaliser by Kamara. There was nothing they could have done to prevent that!

He's just got his first choice left back playing again, still without King and Dawson at centre-half and the poor man's getting battered left, right and centre.

Ronald Koeman is the latest to be linked with his job according to the press this morning, but with Dawson, Lennon and Bent due back soon, surely its worth bearing with him for a minimum of 10 games?

Re: Jol To Go?

Like you say he was very unlucky.

On another day Spurs would've ran out 5-0 winners and been the talk of MOTD but the luck wasn't with them. I thought they played brilliantly well for the majority of that game.

Spurs didn't start too great last season either. Give them time and they will start to pick up imo.

They've had the same start this season as last. Only now, Jol is for the chop. If he makes it to Christmas, I'd be amazed.
