Powell smashes 100m world record

He's like a whippet this fella ain't he, I'm surprised he didnt smash it in the World Championships when he had that Gay bloke chasing him and could only finish 3rd but he's done the business today.

BBC SPORT | Athletics | Powell smashes 100m world record

9.74 seconds, thats pretty amazing I wonder just how low the 100M could eventually go down to.

Yeah hes totally smashed it there. Hes definitely the fastest man on the planet, just seems to choke under the pressure of real competition a bit.

Aye he does seem to do that Muze, I suppose i'd rather have the gold medals as once your record has been broken your soon forgotten whereas lets say an Olympic champion does seem to live on.

Nah thinking about it again from a personal point of view give me the record anyday as it shows at the time you were the fastest man ever. And the 100M record is probably the most valued of any world record.

That world record could stand for a long time too (unless he himself rebreaks it). The only other people to go sub 9.80 to my knowledge are Maurice Greene (whos 33 now and not running much), Tim Montgomery (who got banned cos of drugs and has retired) and Justin Gatlin (who is on an 8 year ban because of drugs - gona be an NFL wide receiver instead). So none of them can break his record. Tyson Gays PB is 9.84 so thats way off.

is he drug free this guy?

I ran the 100 metres against a guy who did it in 11,00 at school and I thought he was high on cocaine.

Sub 10 is ridiculous.
Sub 9,8 is impossible.

Usain Bolt is now the fastest man in the world as he ran the 100 metres in a time of 9.72 seconds!

Bolt sets world record in 100 meters - World Sports Report - CBSSports.com

Well obviously his odds for the Olympics 100 Metres Gold are gonna drop.

thats the question slick. I think it will go down and down as it has untill about 80,000 years when it will then be down to micro seconds as we've evolved into light speed moving holograms.

Must be great to be sitting in right now and reminding yourself 'oh aye im the fastest man thats ever lived on this earth'. I would be bumming about it all the time. Folks would eventually end up saying 'well get to fcuk sharpish then'

Re: Powell smashes 100m world record

Very impressive time, the trouble is though, the thought that now passes through my mind is 'I wonder what he was on to get that'.

I think there have been cheats in Athletics for years, but recent high profile cases like Marion Jones etc. really make you wonder how straight the sport is. I am sure that there are plenty of athletes working their ar5es off, only to get done by those that are having other assistance.
Also in the cases where athletes have been disqualified many years later, it must rankle those subsequently awarded the medals as they will have missed their opportunities to cash in at their peak.
