The Biggest Away Support Ever?

I was just talking with Tom Sawyer and others in the pub there about the biggest away support ever. Aye we was talkking football but if there's something ive missed from another sport then please mention.

Celtic at Seville with 60,000 was mentioned although as everyone whos ever drunk in glasgow knows that figure seems to be 260,000 with the tales of those that 'were there'. I was more inclined to believe an old number when football was cheap and no cnut had nothing else (no internet) to do. Maybeit was a south american team. maybe it was Scotland at Wembly. I do not know. One that was mentioned to me was the Republic of ireland at Hampden in the 80's (90's?) where they brought a few through.

anyone know?

thanks

Re: The Biggest Away Support Ever?

Can't say i know but would be interested to find out, doubt very much it would be scotch affair mind as the average sweaty fan would be seeing double and that usually pushes up the figures.

i was near a wee bairn when the Scots took over Wembley and tried to nick the grass and goalposts but still remember it well, a few fans did more damage than Wallace could ever have dreamed of.

Biggest away support ever is a good question and i'm gonna google it tomorrow as off the top of my head i just don't have a clue but will be intrigued to see if its a club or national team.

Re: The Biggest Away Support Ever?

I think thats the biggest ever Scotland away support, overseas, figures being banded about are between 15,000 - 20,000, although some papers are trying to say 25,000.

Scotland did use to take loads of Wembley when it was a 100,000 capacity stadium, seen some old clips of games and it looks mostly Scots so you could be looking at 75,000 (?).

Think Ireland had about 30,000 in Stade De France a few years ago for a game v France, apparently.

Club wise, Celtic took 80,000 to Seville and I also think Man Utd took similar numbers to Barca for the CL final in 99.
