Chelsea Chelsea

Another week of Premiership football, another week of controversial refereeing decisions. According to the pundits and the commentators, Chelsea were denied a goal yesterday due to an incorrect decision from a linesman. He flagged Kalou as being off side, the goal was disallowed and the game finished nils each.

Now Mourinho wants an apology from the ref as he is certain the goal should have stood.

Quote:
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he wants referee's assistant Peter Kirkup to apologise after the official disallowed a strike by Salomon Kalou.
Am I the only one here that thinks that Kalou was actually off side?

I saw it on Setanta yesterday then again on MOTD and this morning its been on sky again. As the ball was played, Kalou was infront of the last defender. The defender was stood on the line grass-cut line. Clearly, Kalou was infront of this line and bearing down on goal. A close call but I would say the referee's assistant made the correct call there.

Am I the only one?

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

Oh and another point about Chelsea Chelsea, does anyone think Mourinho is making a meal over this decision because his team is making a dog's dinner of the Premiership this season?

Drawing at home to Blackburn (goal disallowed or not) is a very very bad result.

Chelsea should be winning games like that at home, by a comfortable margin. The bookes had them at 2/7, which suggests that they were confident they would win by a margin of 2 or more goals. 1 goal disallowed shouldnt be here nor there - yes some might say it was a bad decision but we shouldnt let this occurance hide the real truth. And that is Chelsea are going to pieces this season.

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

You are the only one.

Video evidence showed Kalou was clearly onside and behind the play when the pass was made.

Chelsea were unfortunate.

You can't be offside if you're behind the ball mate. It all happened quite quickly but Kalou did seem to be behind the ball when it was put into the centre, therefore he is onside regardless of how many of the opposition players are in front of him.

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

He wasnt behind the ball was he? He was ahead of the play and the ball was played forwards when it was crossed in.

I cant find a replay of it anywhere on tinternet, which obviously means Im right.

Abramovich has obviously flashed his cash and the internet has been purged of footage that shows Mourinho to be wrong. Another conspiracy....

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

He was behind the play. To begin with he was ahead if my memory serves me right and then fell behind play then the cross went in.

It it not even like it was a 50/50 decision. Clearly onside.

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

The ball was played forward - you've got that bit right. The scorer was behind the ball when it was played though. Onside.

I actually thought he was offside too.

Only seen it once or twice but he was certainly forward of the Blackburn defenders (you could see this from the grass cut line you mention) and I was sure he was forward of the player playing the ball in as well. I know he ran onto it and he was only about 4 yards out when knocking it in but the ball was slanted forward across the box and I was sure he was ahead of the player playing it in as he didn't need to move much to get it. I though him and the 2 Blackburn defenders (who he was in front off) were all forward of the Chelsea player.

Then again, I may just be talking bollocks, its been a long week

Yes you are. He was behind the ball when it was kicked across to him.

Re: Chelsea Chelsea

If the balls played forwards but youre behind the player who passes it, is it offside? (btw ive not seen the goal so this isnt a question relating to that).

That was the way I saw it too, goal should've stood.

No, I don't think so. That's why, when you get two players clean through on goal, you can have one of them pass it square (going slightly forwards) to his team mate who, despite being well clear of the last defender, is still onside as he was behind the ball. I think.
