Ronaldo Freekicks

I feel its got to the point that I have to mention this now. Has anyone else noticed how shit Ronaldo is at freekicks? Ive been noticing it for a good season or so now and he is the worst freekick taker I have ever seen. I literally dont know how he keeps getting to take them for Man U when they must have quality elsewhere.

Almost every single one hits the wall. The few that dont go over the bar or straight at the keeper. He blasts every kick with no variety, I just dont get it.

The % that hit the wall astounds me, having watched loads of Utd games cos theyre always on, I say to whoever im watching with, look at this hit the wall. I did this on Saturday when watching the Everton v Man U game, surprise surprise 3 from 3 hit the wall. Why do they let him take them?

Surely others have recognised this? It pissed me off as well on Saturday cos the commentators are ooh Ronaldos stepping up to take the freekick or summat and there seriously is 0 danger.

Re: Ronaldo Freekicks

Ill actually be interested to hear Waynes opinion, cos surely Utd fans must talk about this, its blatantly obvious how shit the freekicks really are.

If it was our player at Goodison wed all be groaning everytime he stepped up to take one, sort of like when Gravesen used to take on stupid shots from outside the box all the time and theyd be shit and youd know before they even happened that this would be the case. Get the same when Hibbert ever kicks the ball, he has a 90% passing to the opposition completion rate.

Re: Ronaldo Freekicks

Valid point Muze and I completely agree with you. He hit a free kick back at the start of last season (i think) which moved all over the place and went in. Everyone raved about it and rightly so.

Problem is he's tried to emulate that ever since without much luck. You knew if Becks had a free kick, there really was danger. With Ronaldo, it just seems a case of hit and hope sometimes.

I can only guess we haven't got an alternative 'self-proclaimed' free kick taker. Giggs can take one from the right position and Scholesy and Rooney can smack one too but I think that's it?

Andeeee - OK. Wasn't going to answer your continual ABU baiting but let's put this to bed once and for all. You'll always get a reasoned debate from me about United - whether we're right or wrong - and I'll always be as unbiased as is possible about my team. However, what I won't accept is the crap that United get targetted with, because they're United. Every team has divers, every team manipulates the ref, etc, etc but the blinkered ABU's out there are only interested in United doing it.

All I've seen from you is anti-United shit. Any chance you can discuss your own world-beaters.......sorry, cup team. Or is United more interesting to you? Thanks for the compliment.

And this quote about being touchy, get out of your hole mate and grow up. I could post a shitload of criticisms about Scousers and they're beloved team but then I'm just lowering myself to your level. And let's be honest, there are plenty of things you'll be touchy about regarding your team. Leave it there shall we?

Re: Ronaldo Freekicks

Only set-piece taker of note in the Premiership really is Arteta. Gerrard, Riise, even Alonso's delivery of the set piece is shit.

None of them can cross for fuck from corners and for free kicks they are all one trick ponies.

Ronaldo's shit too.

Re: Ronaldo Freekicks

Amazes me how many corner takers can't get it over the first man. Giggsy being one of the main culprits.

All they do is play footy every day. You'd think they could get the hang of it wouldn't you.

Re: Ronaldo Freekicks

I always wonder this to myself Muze.

His build up fucking annoys me too. Standing up straight then eyeing the goal and then wack into the wall.

There isn't much skill to what he is trying either. Its basically just a powerful shot mixed with some dip and bend.

I have seen Rooney pop in a few (best i loved was his debut hat trick in CL v Fenerbache i think it was). Surely better options.
