Allardyce Goes At Benetiz
Quote:
Sam Allardyce claims Rafa Benitez cannot win the Premier League - and that the Spaniard is lucky to be in his job at Liverpool.
In an amazing attack, the Newcastle manager predicted the title would not go to Anfield this season as their "foreigner" boss still does not have the right "mentality".
Liverpool were knocked off the top of the table at the weekend when Benitez rested Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres for the game at Portsmouth ahead of tonight's Champions League visit to Porto.
Allardyce admits the 2005 European champions have the best chance of the six British clubs of winning again this season.
But he believes Liverpool's league finishes since Benitez arrived - fifth, third and third - would have got him the sack without his exploits in Europe.
"Rafa would be very lucky to be in a job if he hadn't got to two Champions League Finals, because they've had some very, very poor finishes in the Premier League," Allardyce told Zoo magazine.
"While they're a very good Champions League team, they're not a Premier League-winning side yet. They don't have the mentality to win that yet.
"Being a foreigner, Rafa doesn't understand it's supposed to be Premier League first and Champions League second."

Interesting that isn't it.
He has a point to a certain degree aswell. Would Rafa still be in the job had he not done aswell as they had done in Europe?
I certainly don't think so.

Re: Allardyce Goes At Benetiz
Even if you take our cup victorys out of it and just base it on league finishing positions then Rafa would still have this season and next season in the job. We dont fire them off that easy at ours, they are all given a fair run at it.
You only have to look at SAF to see it's the only way, his first three seasons were far worse than Rafa's and look what he went on to do.

Thats proposterous Kiko.
That's like saying "would Mourinho have been taken on by Chelsea, had he not won the CL with Porto?".
Or Would have have been sacked if he hadnt won the Premiership twice?
The fact is, Benitez has been there 3 seasons, won the biggest pot around and he's got to another CL final. He's got a great record IMO.
Fat Sam wouldnt be trying to deflect attention from his side's lacklustre start to the season would he? 10th in the Premiership, just lost to a very poor Derby side.
Football managers trying to cover up their own inadequacies by slagging off other gaffers, whatever next? Bears shitting in the woods perhaps.

Absolutely. By all accounts, wasnt Fergie's job saved by winning the FA cup inhis 4th season at OT or something?
I'm sure it was a long wait for his first trophy anyway.
Good clubs make the correct appointments and give their managers time.
All this hysteria about Benitez being sacked if he doesnt win the league this time round is bollocks. Liverpool fans are more than happy with life under Rafa. The icing on the cake would be the Premiership, but realistically, to break into the top 2 this time round would be an achievement.

Re: Allardyce Goes At Benetiz
Cracking poem here, printed in today's Daily Post:
Who’d you think you are?
Dissing me like this.
Saying we’ve not won enough?
Are you taking the piss?
This xenophobic bullshit
Just has to stop
But so does your eating.
Man, you’re about to pop.
Lets look at the facts.
They’re black and white.
My managerial stats are the shizz,
While yours are just shite.
A fourth division title and a
Carling Cup Runner up?
Don’t you think it’s time
To shut. The. Fuck. Up?
So now you’re at Newcastle
No hiding behind no money
We all can’t wait til you fail
It’s gonna be twice as funny
So take your bungs, your excuses,
And your big fat fucking head
And stay out of my business
…Cos Don Rafael said

Re: Allardyce Goes At Benetiz
Rafael Benitez has hit back at Sam Allardyce after his ludicrous claims that the Liverpool manager is lucky to still have a job.
Speaking in Zoo Magazine, the Newcastle boss insisted Benitez would have lost his job by now for his failure to win the Premier League had he not guided the Reds to two Champions League finals.
But Benitez has hit back and told Allardyce to mind his own business and concentrate on his own club.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I want to say two things. Firstly, I think he should be more worried about his own business because he must have more problems than to waste time talking about other managers.
"Secondly, has he forgotten Liverpool winning the Super Cup, FA Cup and Champions League as well as reaching another Champions League final, a Carling Cup final and twice finishing third in the Premier League? Maybe he doesn't have a great memory."

Maybe he doesn't have a great memory, but neither does Benitez if he thinks Allardyce forgot those two Champions League finals, bearing in mind they were the whole point of his comments (i.e. it was only those European performances that kept Benitez in a job).

Re: Allardyce Goes At Benetiz
What a preposterous basis for a discussion.
I always thought Allardyce one step above the primal sump that footballers usually inhabit but I´m afraid I´m gonna have to toss you back in Sam.

Yes, I'm not saying I agree with Allardyce's comments. But it just seems strange, when the whole basis of Allardyce's comments was that it was only Liverpool's Champions League success that's kept Benitez in a job, that Benitez should then reply saying that maybe Allardyce has forgotten the Champions League finals
