Ronan O'Gara - womanising gambling addict or French irty tricks victim?

French newspapers have published a number of damaging articles about Irish rugby hero Ronan O'Gara in advance of Friday nights clash - amongst these is that he is (a) a serial womaniser whose wife has left him less than a year after being married , (b) has a serious gambling problem that has left him over 200,000 in debt and that (c) he is an all round "nasty guy".

These rumours have been knocking around Dublin for a while. The only concerete knowledge I have is via my brother (manager for an adverising agency) who has had some dealings with him through his work and has used the word "unpleasant" in connection with him a number of times. The rumour that his wife left him has been bandied around has well. More serious from a nation that loves its rugby heros to sink their pints is a rumour that he has been known to lose the plot after a mere 2-3 pints.

So French vicuous rumours to unsettle the cool cut Irish hero or another flawed sportsman? O'Gara hasn't been threatening to sue and the allegations are so specific that sueing would seem and easy call if there was no issues. If Ireland put another shocker on display on Friday the Irish newspapers might even decide to do some digging.

O'Gara is the Irish and Munster out half - one of the best in the world in the particular position.

French newspapers have been making all sorts of allegations about him - the Irish say that they are dirty tricks designed to unsettle Ireland. Those in the know say they're all true.
