Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

It could have sealed his fate as the Spurs board all season have been looking for an excuse to see him off and allthough coming back from 4-1 down it doesnt really compensate for letting in 4 goals @ home.

Spurs @ the moment seem to be the new West Ham for the 2007/8 season and Jol is going the same was as Pardew did last yr and no doubt will be out sooner rather than later.

Sad really as i quite like the fella but results speak a lot louder than words.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

Hardly a convincing triumph against Farmergooser Acropolis last night was it.

Still, they're through to the next round and that's all that counts I suppose.

If Henk Ten Cate moves to Chelsea in the near future in some role, I wonder whether Mr Jol will consider Ajax. Move before he's pushed.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

Where as of course liverpools stunning performance oozed class and european pedigree.

1 goal in 3 league games, 2 poor efforts in the CL leaving them an uphill task to get out of the group...

The weekends game might spell the end of one manager but is it definitely Jol?

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

Is it a testimony to Jol´s maturity that he´s maintained some measure of decorum while his employers have discussed his "successor" in public?
Or is Jol just plain dumb?

Not too sure myself but should it all go wrong for Spurs this season I would hope the owners might not only acknowledge an inherited business acumen but also that they know fuck all about managing people.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

I am absolutely sick of hearing all this pressure is harsh on Jol, countless articles by countless "experts", yeah the same experts who predicted Arsenal to finish 5th, idiots, they do not know football one bit, they dont deserve to write articles.

He is wank and deserves to be sacked right now, they are not going to finish in the top 8, they scraped 5th last year when the year before they only narrowly missed out on 4th after being 4th for so long, and this year they have taken yet another step backwards.

The money spent and that team should have done a lot better than it has done, and his record against the big four is shocking.

Yet I hear Lawro, dixon, columnists in the sun etc.. saying it is so unfair on Jol, ffs have you seen their record this season.. 1-3-4.. he deserves this "witch hunt"

And whilst everyone was tipping Spurs to challegne for 4th I said in another thread on here they wouldn't even finish in the top 6. I get so angry at these gay experts.

No one can deny that Martin Jol is under pressure at White Hart Lane.

Each game that goes by could reportedly be his 'last in charge' if they lose - but only if you buy into the frenzied media hunt for his scalp.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

and it's looking more and more like you were right and they are talking bollox Chris.

3-1 down with ten minutes to go against Newcastle. 7 points out of 10 games. Diabolical. A UEFA cup tie on Thursday and then a difficult game at home to Blackburn on Sunday. I reckon a loss then could be the end. I like the geyser but watching this shower of shit it's difficult to see what he can do to change it around short of buying 6 new players which he can't do for another couple of months by when it will all be too late.

They're fuckin clueless and their attitude is spasmodic to say the least. It's as if they suddenly remember they'd better look as if they're making an effort to keep the fans off their individual backs and in case the next manager is watching.

If he should survive the Blackburn game he's then away to the worst team in the division in my view, Boro. They are probably one of only three teams they could expect to travel away to at the moment and beat.

The games after are Wigan and West Ham. Get through the Blackburn game and he'll make it through to December.

That team looks like they have sold him out ODM. Spineless shower of shit tonight, not one bit of fight about them (apart from the lad Kaboul at the end after getting done by Butt). Robbie Keane looked like he gave a damn, no one else did. When it went 3-1 they were gone totally.

You would think that someone like Jenas, getting the bird from the Toon Army, would have thought "Right fuck you lot, I am going to get stuck into your lot on the pitch for giving me all this shit". Did he? Did he fuck, turned his back for the 3rd goal. 5 mins later he is playing a pass 10 yards behind his full back, easy ball, no pressure on, goes out for a throw and he sort of slopes he shoulders and goes "Ohh well".

Mind you, I don't think Jol is blameless.

Why have Berbatov on the bench? Why pay £17m for Bent when you have Berbatov, Keane and Defoe at the club. Surely with those 3 you are looking for a 4th choice striker to back them up. Fuck even someone like Bellamy was about £10m short of Bents price. And teams like Chelsea and Liverpool pick up established internationalists like Voronin and Pizzarro for free. Fair enough neither of them have done it as yet but neither has Bent this season.

Why bring on Lennon, one of the fastest boys about, and play him left wing. He is right footed FFS, but him on the right, let him rip past the left back, get to the byline and then either cross or pull it back. Don't make him rip past the full back, stop, cut back and the deliver.

Why buy a left back and play him left midfield?

The Spurs defence is soft as shit. They kept 2 clean sheets away from home last season - at relegated Charlton and Watford and haven't kept one away from home this season. Hell the only team that haven't scored against them this season is Derby and they don't score against anyone. I never thought I would be saying look at the Newcastle defence, and its not a outstanding defence in anyway but look what Allardyce picked up in the summer - 5 new defenders. Fair enough the left back cost about £6m but Cacapa, Faye, Beye and Rozenhal would all improve the Spurs defence and would be first choices- and they cost £7m or so between them. If your defence is shit, if you can't keep clean sheets you buy no nonsense defenders to sort it out. Allardyce has made an attempt to do it, Jol hasn't IMO.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

For what its worth I think a lot of Spurs' problems come down to leadership. IE: there isnt any

They are really missing a leader at the back. Kaboul is a good player and I have been impressed with him so far, but by all accounts he isnt a centreback and definitelty at his young age is not a leader. Dawson seems like a competant number 2 in defence. He needs to be next to a John Terry or a Carragher - he needs a leader or an organiser by his side to shout at him.

It would probably have been very different had Ledley King been fit. But surely questions have to be asked over whether he will ever play a full season of football ever again? It seems stupid for me that spurs have no other captain or rather that they havent bought one - given the massive questions over King's long term fitness. They need a leader on the pitch and they need him now.

The vice captain is Robbie Keane. A man who probably would have made way on many occasions for Bent/Berbatov but who cant be dropped because of the captaincy issue. Keane is a given in every game and so its a case of rotating Bent and Dimitar or sticking Keane out on the wing and playing them up front. Either way, it isnt working and the situation needs to be addressed.

Berbatov looks like he wants away and I dont think Martin Jol has the authority to set him right. It was rumoured in pre-season that Berbatov had thrown a wobbler and wanted out. Jol told Daniel Levy who was astounded and suggested that Jol would leave before Dimitar. So here we have a case of a player who is bigger than the club. He knows the club would keep him over the manager. What authority does Jol have when that is the situation? None what so ever. He has been undermined by his board and the players know it.

Basically, Spurs lack guidance on and off the field. Jol has had players bought for him (Darren Bent was a classic example) by the powers that be and has never really had their full confidence since the season started. There's no one on the pitch who can lead the troops. No one seems particularily bothered that they are getting humiliated game after game. The players dont even seem to have a professional pride and a will to win. Basicially they're a classic example of mercenaries who dont give a shit about anything else but their wages and there's no one there to set them right.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

A Goalkeeper that make mistakes that never gets dropped hardly instills confidence in already shaky defence that lacks authority.
A midfield that is lopsided at times and were one of the central midfielders namely Zakora does nothing for the team and I cant actually remember a game were he actually did anything to justify his place in the team,he rubber stamped my sentiments with his performance yesterday (I use that term loosely) hes headless chickeness was underlined when he collided with another one of our players.
As ive said before as soon as Levy has a man to replace Jol hes history.

Re: Bye Bye Martin Jol

Spurs dont have a team of winners. The chips are down and who's going to get yelling at the likes of Zokora or Chimbonda to up their game? Keane, Jenas or Berbatov? I think not.

Spurs have a group of talented individuals but none of them seem to be driven winners. They all seem to be happy to turn up, play shit and go home to their page 3 girlfriends and Bentleys.

You need someone like Roy Keane to dish out the odd bollocking when necessary.

Martin Jol's reign as Tottenham manager could end after Sunday's home match against Blackburn, with Rovers boss Mark Hughes in line to replace the Dutchman at White Hart Lane. (The Independent)
