Jim Smith

Oxford Utd 3 - 3 Torquay
15' E Hutchinson 1 - 0
18' Y Odubade 2 - 0
45' Y Odubade 3 - 0
58' 3 - 1 I Welsh
79' 3 - 2 C Zebroski
89' 3 - 3 T Sills

That could be the result that's finally going to finish him as a manager? The result leaves Oxford 11th in the league, 10pts off a play off place, surely not good enough for Oxford? He's in his 10th club as a manager and has had a little success to boast about but that was some time ago now. He turns 67 next week and surely there comes a time when you have to take a step back and take a look at what's happening around you. I think he's as good as finished now, a shame but you have to stop at some point eh.

Re: Jim Smith

My mate's an Oxford fan. I go to some of the games with him and some other lads. I was saying just after half time that maybe the draw was worth a punt. The commentators even mentioned that it was 12/1 on blue sq, so god knows what it was on betfair!

I am kicking myself now.

And yes the arl alcy will be out the door. They all wanted him to go after the Droylesden game last saturday. Cant see him sticking around much longer.

Re: Jim Smith

Me dad played alongside and always spoke warmly about Jim Smith when he played at Halifax.
Bald even then if memory serves correctly and as a manager maybe more a support man than number one.
Still, at 67, heŽll be able to put his feet up and enjoy all those bungs Harry threw his way.

Re: Jim Smith

I didnt mind the fella, he called a spade a spade and is one of the last types of his era i suppose.

Football has moved on and you can't imagine him pussyfooting about trying to plse the foreigners we have in the game these days as he's of the old 'do as ure told brigade' .

He's made a comfortable life for himself within football and i hope he now goes on to enjoy a retirement as he always looks like he's gonna keel over at any moment due to stress or high blood pressure.
