Gary Megson/Bolton - WHY?

Can anyone explain the thinking behind this one to me.

Gary Megson doesn't seem to be an outstanding manager to me. Fair enough he took WBA up twice, good achievements, but when they were up they were horse.

He couldn't keep Forest in the Championship and couldn't get them out of Div 1.

He hasn't exactly been waiting for the right job to come along in the last 18 months has he? Leicester then take him on, he is there 6 weeks....how does he suddenly go from being an unemployed manager for close on 2 years to a manager of Leicester to be pursued by Bolton in the space of 6 weeks.

Sometimes things just don't make sense

He swears more clearly than anyone else.
Even the lip readers have taken offence at Megsonīs touch line behaviour.
The guyīs a Neanderthal who probably needs Bolton more than they need him but letīs look forward and hope he continues his successes in taking clubs into the Championship.

Re: Gary Megson/Bolton - WHY?

Bizarre appointment this one. Megson makes the idea of Bolton appointing someone like Souness sound like a genius one.

Read that Megson doesn't work well with the big players of the past clubs he has been with so god knows how he is going to fair with the likes of Anelka, Diouf etc.

Players that hvae signed new contracts in the last 6 months must be feeling pretty pissed off as i am sure they would have signed them with the promise of the team going forward etc but this is just a huge step back.

I tipped Bolton for relegation at the beginning of the season but didn't stick any cash down. Wish i had now as i can't see how Megson can do any better than what Lee was doing.

Re: Gary Megson/Bolton - WHY?

Gartside said he wanted a man Bigger then Big Sam. Someone that could take the club places. Allardyce had gone so far with the club but the board wanted to take it to the next level. They were after a manager with a track record of success that could build on the years of success that they enjoyed under Sam.

I read somewhere that Megson has had 48 games in the Premiership as manager and won 7.

Some fucking track record that is.

I'm of a different opinion tbh. Ignoring the 'bigger than Sam' garbage that Gartside came out with, because that simply is rubbish & it makes you wonder why people open their mouths with that type of crap as it just makes them look stupid.......but I do see similarities between Allardyce & Megson.
I see them as the same type of manager tbh, the same style. Yes Big Sam had a respective success at Bolton & did some great transfer deals & only time will tell whether he can be a success, but my point is that all those years ago that Sam came into the job we'd be looking at him exactly the same way as we're looking at Megson now. I think he can stabilise them & build a base, although its by no means certain & he'll need the breaks to go his way.
Anelkas situation should be interesting

Re: Gary Megson/Bolton - WHY?

Its obvious they have no cash to spend as soon as Souness refused the job after taking an interview. It probably also means they will be looking to cash in their assetts like Anelka if there in the same position come January.

Megson fits there criteria as no doubt they will be looking for championship players come the new yr and he's obviously been told he'll have to sell b4 he can buy.

I'm more surprised that Dowie was never mentioned as he only lives down the rd from the Reeebok and could have done a similar job for less money as now Bolton will have to pay Leicester compensation no doubt.

Looks like its back to square one for the trotters but that was always going to be the case as what Sam did was a miracle for them and even he couldent have took them any higher so anybody coming in after him was always on a hiding to nothing.

Re: Gary Megson/Bolton - WHY?

Dowie has a court case pending with Palace.

And as for Megson, he wasnt actually contracted to Leicester. He was employed by them on a month by month basis. Which is why Milan Mandarich sounds like a bit of a cunt when he moans about the lack of loyalty Megson showed to his club.

Hardly a ringing endorsement is it? Rolling monthly contract.
