BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Wigan Athletic | Hutchings sacked as Wigan manager
Quote:

Wigan have sacked boss Chris Hutchings following the club's slump into the bottom three of the Premier League.

Assistant manager Frank Barlow takes charge on a caretaker basis, starting with Sunday's trip to Tottenham.
Chairman Dave Whelan said: "It is crucial for our development that we maintain our Premier League status. "Following results and performances in recent matches we feel it is critical to act now. It is in the best interests of the club and its long-term future."

Re: Wigan sack Chris Hutchings

10 games

He's effectively done no worse (or better) than Jewell did last season. This was a club that stayed up on the last day of the season so they haven't sort of turned from world beaters to relegation candidates over night.

Actually feel for him and Sammy Lee. Taking over from long term managers who had WAY over achieved at the club. They were always on a hiding to nothing with these jobs but giving them 10 games, and less for Lee, to try and prove themselves - well to me that says its poor decision making from the chairmen in the first place to give them these jobs.

Suppose it highlights the huge importance of staying in the EPL. Chairmen are getting twitchy in September and November that they could go down and lose the cash cow of EPL money.

Re: Wigan sack Chris Hutchings

Wigan is a strange one, especially when you look at the games they've played.

They've lost away to Newcastle, Everton, Manchester United and at home to Liverpool and Chelsea. 8 defeats at this stage doesnt look great but that's harsh in my opinion.

Surely the games that matter are the '6-pointers' at home against Derby, Reading, Brum, Bolton, Boro and Sunderland? I'd have thought that you almost wrote off games against teams in the top 6 or 7? especially those away from home.

Anyway - like I said I think its harsh he's gone so early.

I know I saw that one Win. Very odd indeed.

Jewell leaves, they spend a decent amount in the summer and then he returns to play with another man's team. Hmmmm

Thats a good point about their fixture list AFU.

Wigan have already beaten Sunderland and Boro at home, drew with Fulham. They have lost narrowly at Brum and Reading away. The other teams, and where they played them, you would have them down for a loss anyway.
