Re: Paul Jewell & the Management Merry Go Round
I say good luck to Big Eck......he took us on a great journey with Scotland, reaching highs we'll remember for years to come, plus a few lows as well, but the lows were standard fare for scots...it's EXPECTED...what wasn't expected were the France results....brilliant! he's young with ambition and who doesn't want the chance at managing in the EPL? He'd be mad to to grab this opportunity...what was the alternative? Stick around as Scotland manager, watching his waistline expand even more!?...( he's put on the beef since jan 07, eh?)
As for Paul Jewell?...I can't imagine he's been waiting in the wings for the Derby job-like it was his plan all along. Maybe now that the vacancies are being filled quickly he's sensed that he'd better take something...much like musical chairs.
Football management is no different from any other job in that when you're out of work you want to find a job...eventually ANY job will do.
I can't begin to imagine what it is like to be a football manager in the EPL...but it must be pretty addictive...a powerful drug if ever there was one. Not so much the cash, which is nice, but just the day to day contact with the greatest game on the planet! ..surrounded daily by it all...if sports were women, then football would be the biggest shag in the world....the biggest tits, sweetest pussy, dirtiest mind, etc...oph yes...who could resist?!!! Just think about us..joe blogs types, doing our normal jobs. Some of us love it, others do it because we have to, but most, no..probably ALL of us would move company for more cash...simply Money....of course there arfe other factors such as the increased amount must be more than enough to compensate for stuff like relocating, or kids schools or shit like that...BUT just CASH is enough for us. Why should any job be any different?
Look at Neil Warnock...he thought he'd be picking and choosing, the way he spoke after leaving the Blades, but the harsh realities set in and when a sniff of a job came with Palace he was in.
ALex McLeish is a good man for a club like Birmingham, and in particular the squad they have just now. I was always one for backing against them with Steve Bruce in charge, but now I think there will be some improvement in the use of personnel and therefore results.
Derby?...tough. Jewell was solid manager for Wigan and will need to reproduce all his skills then to get some action with the Rams. The squad simply isn't good enough, as opposed to Birmingham who do have enough talented players to carry them thru enough good results.
Wigan...aahhh!....Steve 'bastard' Bruce. relegation awaits...top tip...they're going nowhere...and I'll tell you this , if another post comes up before the end of the season with a club that is safe from the drop he'll try to jump ship. Guaran-fuckin.teed.
Scotland?...
Full time?: some one who really wants it, and is not interested in Club management anymore: that's who I'd pick. Experienced and with a love for the country. Success at International level always brings club offers, and therefore it's a nap for the SFA that they'll be off. Sure, Scotland isn't that successful , but you don't need to perform that well to be sought after in the current climate.
Part time post?...could be...why not? worth giving it a try....how often are we involved in the major tournaments anyway...qualification is our only busy time.
A double act like Smith/McCoist would the answer. A two man job, so that when one is busy with his club the other can be there...no problems!
All that remains now is for the Middlesbrough job to come up, and it will...Southgate is shit and should never have been allowed to stay on so long...he has no idea how to address the problems he faces: I'd have more ideas in a fuckin coma!
All good stuff, though...the merry go round continues spinning ...and I for one, don't want to get off!!
