Name me another, Gudjohnsen aside. And no Googling!

Will take our group. Could have been worse, could have been better. Least we avoided France, Italy and Germany, which with 3 teams to be drawn didn't look the case.

Holland will be a decent top seed but they have shown they can drop points away from home and probably aren't as consistent as France and Italy were in our Euro 2008 group. We managed to beat them at Hampden last time out with a pish side, would happily take 3 points from 6 from our two games with them.

Norway can be hit and miss but weren't great in the Euro qualifiers. We managed to win across there last time out so I am hopefully of taking 3 points at least of them.

Macedonia - well Englands results have proved they are no pushovers. We should win at home but away from home will be a hard one.

Iceland - they can pull good results out of the bag but I would hope to take care of them home and away.

Trips wise, think Amsterdam is a given, possibly Oslo again and really fancy Macedonia. Not too fussed about Iceland, £12 a pint and a volcanic crop of land, no thanks.

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday

Not a bad draw for either England or Scotland I'd say, England know what to expect and Scotland could roll over Holland but they need to forget about the drubbing they got from them a couple of yrs ago, still even the 2nd spot play off place should be well within their grasp.

Croatia won't be looking forward to playing England again who should with a new manager might be able to put up a fight this time and who knows 12 months from now we might even have a half decent keeper.

Northern Ireland seem to have drawn the short straw imo as both the Czechs and poles have good sides at the moment.
Wales are in with a shout allthough i cannot see them overcoming the Germans but they are more than capable of beating the Russians and Fins on there day allthough its gonna be a tough ask.

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday

I see a lot of Scot's opinions here...Well here's a Macedonian one : The two matches between our countries seam to me like Unders even looking this early ...I was happy to see Scotland as 2nd seat in our group,no disrespect IMO it could have been worse...We have played Holland in the past Qualie's and drawn twice 2-2 in Skopje and 0-0 at their place...The catch in this group is that my country is the only eastern country there so it can be either a big advantage or a big disadvantage-based on the style of play...The 5 teams group soots us more as we seem IMO to have the most eratic of national teams... We had a period of 2 years not loosing away from home including wins over Turkey ,Equador,Estonia and a Draw 0-0 against England, and yet during that period till 40 days ago we didn't win at home for 4 years... And after expected 3-0 win over Andora ,we sudenly very comfortable beat 2-0 the same Croatia that 3 days after that puts England out of Euro 2008....So it's gona be a tricky group...I see our chance in the difference of the style since apart Holland(IMO they have thier own style) the other three seem like same style teams...I don't think we'll finish 4th in front of Iceland...We'll see...You're welcomed in Macedonia...

You are mate.

The 8 best 2nd placed sides from the 9 groups go through to the playoffs. The worst 2nd placed side is out of it completely. However to ensure that teams in group 9 are not at a disadvantage, all the results for the other teams in the other 8 groups against whoever finishes bottom don't count in terms of judging who is best 2nd placed sides.

So for example, the teams who get 6 points against the likes of San Marino or Andorra don't get those points in judging the best 2nd placed sides. This evens it up for us in group 9 who don't have a "minnow" to play.

Don't think its quite that bad Beanie But it will be pricey, both for spending money and to get there, its not the easiest place to get to and I don't think its great for nightlife. Plus we will get a small ticket allocation (think it was about 800 or so the last time, needed 3 points to get a ticket) so there are a few negatives.

If your wanting to defo go to one away and be guaranteed a ticket, go to Macedonia, it will be the best trip by a fair way IMO.

Good to hear from your Zarko, hope you are still around when the fixtures are decided to I can get some tips on Macedonia. The general opinion on the Scotland messageboards is that Macedonia is the away game that we are looking forward to most. From what we have heard it sounds a great place to travel to and its somewhere we have never been before.
