Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday
My dream scenario:
Spain - we can wobble any team at Hampden, and away from home as well, and the Spanish are a bit dodgy when you get it up em. Same goes for a few others in pot 1 - the Dutch and the Portuguese mibbe too.
Scotland
Northern Ireland - not to be underestimated, but one of the few pot 3 sides we can claim to have a more talented squad than. Would be a great trip over there and two unbelievably passionate games.
Cyprus - some horrid eastern euro nations in this pot so I'd gladly take a fairly weak cyprus. No walk in the park as Ireland found out tho.
Leichtenstein - there's a few banana skins in this pot - I've been to Leichtenstein and its a cracking place - fans would have a good time there and despite the odd good result, we could look to 6 points here.
Andorra - we've had San Marino and the Faroes a few times in recent campaigns, so another minnow will do.
The 'Kill me now' group:
Italy - all pot 1 teams are strong, but Italy are a tricky team to wobble(altho we did on Saturday) and I'd like someone new. Loads of teams to avoid from this pot tho.
Scotland
Serbia - will be handy if they disappear into pot 2 - horrid place to try and get a result. Same goes for Ukraine.
Bosnia - another nuggets away tie, altho I dont know too much about the teams in this pot so any eastern euro nation are the ones to avoid.
Georgia - Tough little side - gave us a scare at hampden and did us in Tblisi. Not again.
Azerbaijan - no trouble at Hampden, but the away trip is another one to fear from that pot.
That is mainly made up due to a) horrid away trips, and b) not wanting teams we just had in the Euro qualifiers...but we'll take anyone at Hampden so bring it on!

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday
Purely for selfish reasons, I'd be quite happy with England being drawn in Spain's groups, with Spain preferably choosing to play the home game at the Bernabeu/Vicente Calderon

Europe gets 13 qualifying spots...9 group winners, and the 8 best 2nd place teams have a 2 legged playoff for the other 4. Lowest ranked 2nd place team eliminated.

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday
Would take
Greece or Portugal. Portugal seemed to have struggled in their group in this campaign.
Norway, Norn Iron or Slovakia.
Hungary, Moldova or Cyprus.
Anyone but the top 2 (Georgia or Albania) in pot 5.
No bothered about pot 6 but Andorra would do!
Would like to avoid
Italy, France or Germany. Seen enough of these fuckers over the last few years.
Ukraine and Serbia - can't believe Ukraine are still pot 3.
Probably Belgium - they are on a bit of a downer but still a hard pot 4 side.
The "sell my house, leave my wife, I am going on tour draw!!"
Holland or Croatia
Norway or Denmark
Hungary, Wales, Lithuania or Bosnia
Slovenia, Austria or Liechtenstein
Estonia
The "fuck, thats me staying at home for the next 2 years draw"
Greece
Serbia
Moldova
Albania/Kazakhstan/Armenia
Azerbaijan

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday
I honestly don't see being in the second pot as a disadvantage. None of the teams in pot 1 are exactly frightening the football world at the moment are they . So what if we go in a group with the strongest team in europe at the time. All that means is that they go on to batter the rest of us and we just have to do better than the rest, instead of being in a group where the top four can all beat each other.
You'd have thought we'd have learned by now that form just doesn't work out in football but that won't stop people from working out who will go through to the next round, about 5 minutes after the draw's been made
Bring em on I say. We can play just as well against anyone
Or just as badly

Re: World Cup 2010 Draw - Sunday
You know...For all the home nations involved. There really isn't one team on the International stage that they should be scared of.
I really don't believe there is one geniune side that is a class above the rest like there used to be. The gap is certainly becoming slimmer.
From pot 1 the two teams for me right now would be Greece and Portugal. Greece a similar set up to Scotland in their style of play. Portugal have really struggled their last 6 games or so. Scoring goals has become a huge problem and it doesn't look like clearing up with no real quality strikers coming through.
No great shakes from Pot 3 and i wouldnt mind any team bar Ukraine to be honest. They really impressed me this campaign and were a far better side than giving credit for. They would be the worst possible team to be paired with for sure.
The rest of the pots i am easy pleased with to be honest although the likes of Lithuania, Georgia and Belarus i would rather miss as im sick of the sight of them.
Azerbjan probably a team best avoided as they are a real stuffy outfit who dont concede many goals and i could see us getting into trouble with them
