If you were picking an FA cup tie for TV

...where would it be.

A bit late for this thread so it's not going to get many replies before today's game, if any, but I'm wondering which game people would choose if they were responsible for picking one for the BBC or Sky etc.

You've either got to go to a place where there's going to be a possible upset (and risk an early goal for the Goliaths and a 4-0 drubbing of the poor Davids) or you've got to go for one that will be a real match which could go either way.

The BBC spectacularly fails to pick the right matches it seems to me - and I understand that they get the first pick which is even more of a sad endictment.

The temptation to go for two prem teams is understandable and it guarantees you a decent viewing crowd but the downside is that most people can already watch two prem teams play each other and this is a rare opportunity to see how teams from a different division get on against each other.

Where would you take the cameras today/tomorrow?

Re: If you were picking an FA cup tie for TV

What games are they actually showing on TV over there? We've got the Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd games over here, but seeing as they're being shown on Spanish terrestrial TV, I think they'd only get away with that for games involving Premier League sides.

To be honest, I personally don't think there really are that many interesting ties in this round. If it were down to me, I'd definitely have Liverpool v Havant & Waterlooville on TV, but apart from that, there's nothing that really grabs the attention other than the all-Premier League games. Arguably Portsmouth v Plymouth or Sheffield Utd v Man City maybe?

The grippiing thriller that is Mansfield Middlesborough is just about to kick off.

I know Boro are a bad side but for fuck's sake, even they can't lose to Mansfield.

Later today we have to watch Chelsea beat Wigan 1-0 then tomorrow we have Man U v Spurs which is fair enough given Spurs recent resurgence and not knowing how seriously United will be taking the competition, and Sheff U v Man City which is also a decent choice in my view.

Re: If you were picking an FA cup tie for TV

in the fa cup i'm looking for an upset or an end to end game with lots of goals , so my selections would be

Mansfield - Middlesbrough ...an upset ? bbc have also selected this , so its going to be a 0-1 scorline

Derby - Preston ...lots of goals
Liverpool - Havant & Waterlooville ...lots of goals down one end or "biggest upset ever"

Watford - Wolverhampton ...end to end football with goals

I agree with the potential upset with Derby Traeth

It seems like years since Derby had a decent cup run (the last one I can remember off the top of my head was when Sheff Wed knocked them out in the quarter finals - I think).

I know Preston are struggling but they've certainly had the better of the meetings between the two in the recent years with the glaring exception of the CC play offs.

Derby's defence is dire so they must concede.

I agree with what your saying ODM but when u do look at the fixture list for this round they have probably picked as well as they could have done.

Bar the Spurs game this rounds draw has left us with boring ties

Kiko, you can forget form where Derby and the cups are concerned mate. They've been getting knocked out by teams below them for as long as I can remember. They must be THE most embarassing cup side in the history of cup sides.

They've just scraped through on penalties against a side battling to avoid relegation in the CCC, after being unable to beat them over two games AND BEING BEHIND THREE TIMES

Words can't describe how shit this side is in cup competitions.

Yes I'm on Derby to win this one easily , can also see Preston scoring.

I'm on Derby/Derby ht/ft see the 2/1 thread but the bet I really fancy is the evens on the over 2.5 goals

I would have gone for Liverpool v Havant 100%, I cant believe its not on. Thats exactly the sort of tie that draws people in and what the FA Cup is all about surely. Would have been a great first half too

Re: If you were picking an FA cup tie for TV

So here's the next round, so, same question. If you were picking the venue for the TV cameras where would you go.

I see we (by which I mean me) managed to spot an upset in this thread with lowly Sheff Wednesday kocking out the mighty Rams.

Where next?

Bristol Rovers v Southampton
Cardiff City v Wolves
Sheffield United v Middlesbrough
Liverpool v Barnsley
Manchester United v Arsenal
Preston v Portsmouth
Coventry City v West Brom
Chelsea v Huddersfield Town

Personally, I think most of the games could go either way with the exception of the Chelsea and Liverpool ties.

Anyone but an idiot would televise the MU Arse game so if you had to pick another two, which two would it be?

If I had to pick them I'd go for Preston (that's Preston ODM, not Sheff Wed) v Portsmouth. The rest look awful, probably Liverpool v Barnsley, but I probably still wouldn't watch it.

Sorry. That was the team I was expecting to knock Derby out. I forgot that they managed to cling on to their cup dream for the best part of another week.

I'd have put money on them televising the Sheff United Boro game had they not both been on TV in the last round and it's a game I'd like to see. The cameras always love a "local"ish derby so Coventry and West Brom look to fulfil that criteria.

I reckon Wolves must be due a TV game. No fuck it, Brian Robson wins, I'm going for Sheff U and Boro and Coventry West Brom

Re: If you were picking an FA cup tie for TV

I'd go along with Dave I think. Preston v Portsmouth is the one that looks to have most potential. From the others, none of them have really got much going for them, if I had to choose one, I'd go with Liverpool v Barnsley and hope Barnsley can pull off an upset.
