Story of the Day

From the Beeb

Quote:
Tottenham striker Robbie Keane's persistence in texting and phoning Jonathan Woodgate persuaded the defender to sign for Spurs and join up with his ex-Leeds team-mate. (Daily Star)
Is that not called tapping up?

Well done Jonathan for dropping your new team mate in it

Re: Story of the Day

Its less tapping up than all those clubs (ie all of them) who are going about offering contracts to players while never having had permission to speak to them yet.

What was it Chimbonda said the other day "Newcastle have offered me a very good contract....." or along those lines? Well last I looked Newcastle hadn't had persmission for Spurs to make a contract offer to Chimbonda, yet he knows what his contract would be if/when he goes there. Now if thats not tapping then what the fuck is?

And to think Chelsea were getting dragged over the coals for the whole Ashley Cole thing a couple of years ago, yet it looks to me that everyone is at it now. It now seems to be unsettle player, agree terms with the player.....then make an offer for him.

Considering its 99% unlikely that Keane would have been able offer or advise Woodgate of salary on offer then it just sounds like one player texting another and telling him to come to Spurs and away from the bright (chemical) lights of Boro.

They'll never stop it while theres so much money floating around top flight football, Salary capping would be the only answer but we know that will never happen while i've an hole in my arsehole.

Agents are the main culprits for it as there always after a % and offering players wares here there and everywhere at the moment and it will only get worse the richer top flight clubs become.

I would feel genuinely sorry for the fans of whichever club it happens to, but I really hope that one day one of the top clubs gets into serious financial trouble.

Whether it's Abrahamovich suddenly leaving and dropping Chelsea in the shite, the Glaziers screwing over Manchester Utd, the two Americans at Liverpool who from what AFU has been saying seem to be looking to lead Liverpool into a hell of a lot of debt, I don't care who it happens to, but I hope it happens to one of them, because when it does happen, that's when football's going to have to look at the way it's going financially and do something about it.

Re: Story of the Day

I remember reading in Fowlers autobiography, that Houillier once got Gary Macca to tap up Robbie Keane himself (with a view to replacing fowler) and sent him a message saying something along the lines of "so, what do you reckon, fancy signing for us?" - only Gary Mac sent it to Fowler himself
