Liverpool supporters are to launch an ambitious plan to buy the football club from its current American owners.

US tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks recently finalised a £350m refinancing of the club which they bought in 2007.

But the Share Liverpool FC Group is to reveal plans for a buy-out of the club by 100,000 Reds fans around the world.

The model proposed will be a Barcelona style, "member-share" scheme, aimed at raising £500m to purchase the club from its US owners and build a new stadium.

I saw this mentioned on one of our message boards and thought it was a bit of banter/a laugh.

It seemed like some idea some fellers came up with after too many cans.

First off you have to find 100'000 individuals, all prepared to invest £5000 and probably see zero return from it, until they want to sell up.

I would say any club would struggle to muster that - thats some fanbase that you know....

i could see it working for small clubs but not for a big club like liverpool,did fans of a non league club buy there club recently.

afew numbers being thrown about , 5k to join x 100,000 people then 200 quid a year per person .
i`ll find the 5k from somewhere and an extra 200 quid on my season ticket wouldnt be a bad thing

It wont happen mate. There arent enough people that can afford it and are willing to.

Plus, how do you handle administration of opening 100'000 envelopes and recording who has and who hasnt paid? It would take fucking ages.

Plus, what if hicks and gilette turn round and go - nar, I think its worth £600m now. What do you do? Ask everyone to spunk up another grand?
