Jermain moves to Pompey

Big transfer news, very late in the day from these boys - last night Defoe agreed terms with Portsmouth and agreed a deal for an undisclosed fee, to sign the wee cockney.

Oddly enough, it seems 'Arry was keen to send Benjani on his way, with Man City the favourites to sign him but they just ran out of time to seal the deal apparently.

Funny that Harry should want to sell him, given the season he's had. Then again maybe its just him wheeling and dealing and trying to get top price for a player that he doesnt fancy for the long run.

Re: Jermain moves to Pompey

I actually thought the reported £5m for Benjani was underpricing him a little.

Sure he is still hot and cold in front of goals but thats only the price of 1 Michael Chopra.

You would have thought a striker who has actually scored a few goals in the EPL would have gone for a couple of £m more considering some prices that are being paid, City's need for a striker and also the fact they are paying the same amount for some 19 year old Ecuadorian lad, are they not?

Yes mate I know.

With Sunderland having paid circa £4m for Andy 'fat boy' Reid from Charlton, £5m for an International striker who has come good this season does seem cheap.

Re: Jermain moves to Pompey

Looks like Sir Harry Twtchalot may have a problem on his hands.
He's spent the Benjani money before he had it , word is that Benjani missed 2 planes to Manchester so thats why the deal wasn't done , anyhow in another twist

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Benjani deal to be reviewed

Quote:
The Premier League are to examine the paperwork over the proposed transfer of Portsmouth's Benjani Mwaruwari to Manchester City.

It had been thought the deal was off after City failed to complete the signing of the Zimbabwe international striker on transfer deadline day.

City stated that due to the player's late arrival into Manchester on Thursday

they did not have enough time to seal the deal.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp was confident of the deal going through following their capture of Spurs' Jermain Defoe.

Despite initially appearing as though Benjani would be staying at Fratton Park, it now seems the Premier League could yet allow the deal

Re: Jermain moves to Pompey

i've also heard Benjani has been in Manchester since the Man U game Keema so u don't know what to believe but as Man City fans we expect anything so its like water off a ducks back, if the other new lad Caicedo had webbed legs and a pair of tits we wouldent bat an eyelid.

I thought Benjani was a bit underpriced at first Crowie until i spotted he was 29 yrs old, i didnt realise he was that old so 5 or 6 million for a striker at his age aint a bad price i reckon as its probably his last move.

Something incredibley dodgy about this whole couple of transfers I think.

The PL are now going to put the transfer through by the looks of it. Turns out its £7m for Defoe and £7.6m for Benjani according to BBC.

Re: Jermain moves to Pompey

I'll see your article and raise you this from the official site:

Quote:
Manchester City have tonight corrected press speculation that Benjani Mwaruwari has completed his transfer to the club from Portsmouth.
Some news organisations have this evening claimed in unattributed stories that the Portsmouth striker has joined the Blues.

However a club spokesman said: “No deal has been completed. Manchester City remain in contact with the football authorities regarding this potential transfer, and any further developments will be announced first on mcfc.co.uk.”
Feeling is city dont want him at that price

Re: Jermain moves to Pompey

I think City have a couple of issues with Benjani's medical. He is 29 (I think) and apparently a scan showed up potential problems, relating to a knee injury from 2 years ago.

The BBC are still reporting the deal has gone through but City's website seems to counter that.....
