Congratulations Rangers
Some more British representation in the latter stages of a European competition.
Having seen Zenit home and away to Leverkusen on ITV4, I think they'll have a tough job should they qualify for the final. Having said that, they have the little matter of the Viola and their coke fiend striker to get past first.
Best of luck 'gers fans!
Quadruple here we come!

Re: Congratulations Rangers
Must admit, having failed to get ahead in the home leg, I feared the worst tonight.
Didn't see the game but 2-0 came as a bit of a shock to say the least.
Well done guys

Re: Congratulations Rangers
The surprise comes more from their overall tired play, woeful passing and lousy defending in the 1st leg. Bogging!!
Occasionally though they can turn in a really rock solid display and are very difficult to carve open when like that. Everyone looked sharper tonight and much more up for it. Steve Davis continues to impress me too. He's very interesting isn't he Keem? He does remind me of Hutton a bit.
It should be noted, despite Ranger's solid performance, Sporting are really quite a poor side. Nice enough passing and movement but a bit weak and toothless and without the needed quality to open up a stuffy defensive side. Rangers will need a hell of a lot of luck in the semi.
Ooh, did I tell you's I dreamed I was playing for Rangers in the UEFA cup final? It was with a couple of Champs league matches still to go as well. I scored two goals in a 10-7 win against Marseille. I'm great eh?

I was wondering when AFU became a Rangers fan
Celtic fan here but i can only take my hat off to the achievements Walter Smith has carried out at Rangers this season.
To take such a poor side with little flair in them and get them to where he has done is unbelievable to be honest.
I mocked whent he likes of Dailly, Weir came through the door at Ibrox and expected a comfortable 3 in a row campaign, especially after the money that was spent by Celtic pre season but Walter seen something that I don't think 99% of managers would see.
Incredibly difficult side to break down. I did say all along Rangers had the tactics designed to play in Europe, especially away, but i didnt expect this type of sucess.
Hurts a hell of a lot and the abuse i have had to take has been terrible
Praying to god this isn't the start of another huge Rangers glory period

Re: Congratulations Rangers
I know what you mean , the are over acheiving outrageously and in AFU's defence he has taken a bit of stick of late , I know that scousers hate this robbing rep they have and it appears he's hitting out in a subtle way
The gers signed Beasley from us and I thought it a cracking signing , I know he's been injured but he will be effective for certain.
Is there any way in hell you would support them should they reach the final?
I was actually in Uniteds corner in their Euro cup final , principally because those arrogant Munich players were high fiving on the bench thinking they had won but deep down I knew a load of mates of mine would be very happy

Re: Congratulations Rangers
From a national side's point of view I am happy that Rangers are doing well in Europe, they have about 8 or 9 Scottish lads in the team or the bench who can only be gaining from this experience.
I am also happy from a Scottish league point of view. No one is ever going to claim its the best league in the world but we have now had a side in the last 16 of the CL 3 years in a row, we had Celtic in a European final 5 years ago and we now have Rangers in a semi final. We even had Aberdeen giving Bayern a game and a half at home and only failing to beat them due to a dodgy penalty decision.
As for cheering Rangers on if they got to the final, I couldn't do it. What I would say is that its not going to change my life if they ended up winning it, it wouldn't honestly fuss me too much but I wouldn't actually go out and hope for them winning it.
Btw, Keem, Slick etc, if they do make the final then lock up your daughers, sons, family pets, keep your wifes etc indoors as they will take thousands down to your bit even if they haven't a hope in hell of getting a ticket and it won't be pretty

Re: Congratulations Rangers
fuk me I forgot about that.
I remember when Celtic played Manure in a friendly , it could have been for Macari , I swear to God they were still in our town's Catholic club 3 days after the match!

Re: Congratulations Rangers
Any Celtic friendly with Man U and they storm the place, never seen any bovver though which is a credit to them , allthough a lot of that is down to them being to pissed to stand up. they also like to stray too and don't just stick to boozers around the ground, many a time I've seen them roaming around Cheetham Hill b4 and after the match and thats about 5 or 6 miles from Old Trafford, I've never seen another teams supporters do that apart from some Boro fans once who were lost.
Saying that most fans come down for the match then fcuk off home straight away whilst the Scots like to make a day of it.
Good luck to Rangers though as they thoroughly deserved to go through, its not the most exciting football I've ever seen and they like to play it cagey but its working for them so why change it, Smith's done a cracking job on his return there and its good to see Mcoist getting involved in Scots football and giving something back rather than jjust sticking to media work as I think he has a lot to offer and will learn a lot from Smith.
Fiorentina will be a tougher proposition but i see no reason Rangers cannot beat them, against Everton they didnt look so great but beating PSV was a great result and shown Rangers will have to be at there best here and may rue those silly bookings in Lisbon.

Celtic have been down a few times, Giggs, Keane testimonials as well I think, at least.

I do know there was some pissed up arseholes at the CL game last season giving it all the IRA shite while getting pished round about the Arndale area, which considering what happened is well out of order. Still, you have cunts in every support unfortunately and the Celtic one is no different from anybody elses. Its just our bammers have a particular leaning towards thinking they are the re-incarnated versions of Wolfe Tone and Bobby Sands while the closest they have probably got to Ireland is a pint of Guiness.
I said to my mate when Rangers got punted into that 4 teams left that I would have made it 3/1 any of the 4 getting to the final. Got result for Fiorentina last night as you say Slick but but they were all over the shop at Goodison and should have been pumped out that night.
Bayern aren't looking too clever for all the big names they have and Zenit are no mugs by the looks of it, plus they are fresh seeing as their season is just starting again. Bayern would be slight favs for me but I wouldn't be overly surprised to see a Zenit v Rangers final.

Re: Congratulations Rangers
Would be interesting to see Dick Advacaat and Fernando Ricksen facing Rangers. Wasn't Fernando putting the boot into Scot's football a while back?
Or was that me...

Re: Congratulations Rangers
Tell you the truth Crowie theres not many mancs who give two fcuks about what happened to the Arndale as in all reality Manchester city centre was shite and as long as nobody was hurt then all's well in love and war and in fact it did Manchester a favour as it gave us the resources to rebuild in that area and end up with more night clubs like the Printworks etc, Manchesters twice the place now as it was then.
The Warrington blast had a much bigger effect as kids died and if that had happened in Manchester then i doubt very much they would be singing about it, not without repercussions anyhow believe me.
All the teams in the Semis are capable of beating each other allthough Zenits destruction of Leverkusen will have made Bayern sit up and take notes and as such I think the winner of that match would be my fancy to win the comp which means there could be some good odds to be had if its Zenit which wouldent surprise me.
