The Fiortentina manager was blaming Rangers for his team being shit too, ODM.
They weren't good enough and I do think it's as simple as that. The chances they did create (couple right in front of goal don't forget) they blew. Don't blame Rangers for that. And don't blame Rangers for your team's piss poor passing and lack of desire until the 2nd half of the 2nd leg.
Teams playing as negatively as Rangers only really pisses me off when you know they're better than that and unfortunately I think Rangers' hands are tied. They know if they push up, leave space; they'll be murdered but I do think their midfield and attack is decent enough if, God forbid, they ever have to chase a goal. I've quite enjoyed their flinging themselves at everything and last ditch blocks. Reminds me of that Scotland v Sweden game from a few years back when the Swedes pulverised us for 90 minutes and lost 1-0 (neat John McGinlay finish on the break if I recall ).

Craig Brown was apologising after the game for the performance and I was thinking, "Are you on drugs!?? That was the most stunning, awesome defensive display I've ever seen!" I really was blown away by that game.
Anyhow. Zenit look to be the side that'll finally break through Rangers with their quick and clever play around the box. That's what everyone else has lacked so far. Fiorentina included. I do think though that when forced into it, Rangers aren't quite as shit going forward as we all think. We might get a classic yet!
And I've just found the match report for Scotland v Sweden if anyone wants a trip down memory lane:

How they survived the Swedish onslaught yesterday no-one will ever be able to explain. Wave after wave of attacks swept down on a Scottish defence which was often bowed under the pressure - but never broken.
