Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Big big mistake in my opinion , he's useless as he proved at West Ham , anyone but Souness would have done what he did at the end of last season.
Time will tell but I think they'll be looking for a new man before xmas

Quote:
Newcastle have confirmed caretaker boss Glenn Roeder as full-time manager on a two-year contract.
Roeder, 50, took the Magpies from the bottom half of the Premiership to seventh after the sacking of Graeme Souness in February.

Did a similar thing at west ham didnt he, finished 6th or 7th first season then relegated the next with cole, defoe, crrick, sinclair, di canio and a pretty decent team

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
I dont know. Seems decent enough. He has enrolled at Warwick University for his Fifa badges and you cant fault what he did in his time in charge. Maybe he has grown and developed as a manager and well, maybe he is a better coach for it. Lets be honest, there are loads of 'eperienced' big hitting managers who have all the badges and are shite.
Good on them for giving him a chance.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Shepherd has appointed him as he is in a no lose situation imo.
If he had overlooked Roeder and appointed some foreigner with a big reputation i am sure there would've been many questioning him as to hwy Roeder wasn't given the job due to the turnaround he did there.
Now with Roeder in charge if things go well then great, if they don't then he can't be faulted as he will argue he gave the guy a chance bla bla bla.
You also feel with Roeder the board won't waste any time in sacking him if things go wrong either.
Roeder seems to ahve the respect of all the players in the club, well thats the impression i have been given from the interviews by players.
Good to see who is looking to get rid of the over priced flops such as Boumsong, Luque etc also as it was Souness's failure to drop his big money signings that effectively cost him his job.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Two-year contract says it all. Shepherd is hedging his bets - if he fails he can sack him without too much cost and say to the fans "well, you wanted him", and if he suceeds, the fat controller can bask in his reflective glory. What a twat he is.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Twat indeed - few up here doubt that.
A relative master-stroke like you say. If he fails its their fault and if he succeeds, fat Freddy gets his grinning mug all over the papers. Meanwhile, Alain Olivier is laughing all the way to the bank.
Pair of twats.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Oh im sorry cos all you guys would appoint a foreigner wouldnt you or someone else?
The guy cant win ffs, he appoints roeder your all like "oh he's doing it for himself, not the club etc.." if he didnt appoint him you'd be like "oh why hasnt he appointed him with the job he's done, he cant appoint the right man"
I feel sorry for him as he's doing what he thinks is best for the club he loves and people just dont see the big picture, you cant argue with the amount of money the club has spent too.
Souness was a bad appointment but he isnt doing it on purpose, he's not a twat.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Fair enough, I can't suggest who else should have got the job, and I don't think they should have appointed a big foreign name. But Freddie IS a twat. Living up here, the one thing the supporters are all agreed about is that. They would have John Gregory as manager if it meant getting rid of Shepherd.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
You only need to look at the stats though. It's a proven fact that no manager who looks like a rat has ever won the Premiership.
I'm with Keema - Gone by Xmas. I don't usually bother betting on "the sack race" markets but I'll give this one a go given the ficklety of their "loyal" supporters and the clubs proven ability to fuck up a brand new cunt.

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
...David O' Leary a sneaky little squirrel and Alex Ferguson a sweaty, heaving, crimson breast. Ergo the theory holds. I like it

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
I like the word ergo - should be used more. Warnock is like an angry buffalo and Steve Bruce looks like the elephant (man)

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
Chris, I agree with the amount theyve spent & all that, but I have to say that I cant agree on Shepherd doing 'what he can for the club he loves'
The bloke comes across as a weasel & granted my dislike is based on that after dinner thing with John Halls son but the things he said just wouldnt have come from a bloke who loves the club etc, etc. Only one instance granted but a pretty loud one. Cant see a bloke like him being in charge at any other club that size tbh & if he told me it was dark I'd open the door to check......alledgedly of course

Re: Roeder appointed manager of Newcastle
I wouldnt put my disliking of any individual down to their physical appearance. Sure it cant help if you are a funny looking biscuit but I rate people on ability and achievement (or lack of).
You can look at it 2 ways I suppose dependingg on whether you like Freddy. I say its the easy decision to make and following popular opinion doesnt always get you where you need to be. Maybe by going against the tide of opinion and making a brave move and giving his candidate the freedom to control the club - we would see a better outcome. Only time will tell.
Freddie does seem to go with popular opinion though and has made some bad decisions IMO. Wor Bobby wasnt the best choice but was very popular indeed. Then we had the backlash and people were of the opinion that the club lacked disciplin. Rather than going with his instincts or trusting his judgement, he went with popular opinion and appointed Souness. As it happens, Himmler's right hand man didnt fare too well at the club and he was out on his ear, not before wasting plenty of NUFC's money on tosh. Tosh, it should be said, that he had never even seen play LIVE. He (Souness) bought Luque (and Shepherd sanctioned it) without seeing him live, video tapes were enough.
Bah!
