just saw this from bbc , i did not expect this , i thought he was the russian's choice

Grant sacked as Chelsea manager
Chelsea have sacked manager Avram Grant after just eight months in charge.

The decision followed two days of talks between Grant and the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon.

The Israeli coach's position had been subject to intense speculation after Chelsea finished runners up in the Premier League and Champions League.

Chelsea said in a statement on their website that the search for a new coach would now begin and that the club will make no further comment.

very harsh, he came so close to having a great season and seemed like a decent guy.

Agreed TS, extremely harsh indeed. Think they will live to regret that, be surprised if anyone out there can better what the man did this season.

I dunno, he didn't even warm Anelka up before bringing him on in the CL, some dodgy substitutions throughout the season too especially in the Carling cup final. The Anelka one is really poor though, had to go imo.

Grant is negotiating a payout of about 5 million pounds ($9.9 million), the Sun said. He has three years remaining on his 2.4 million pounds-a-year contract, the newspaper said.

The Sun also said that Mourinho, who left the club after clashing with Abramovich, has spoken to the owner at least three times over the past six weeks, the Sun said. The prospect of his returning has been discussed, but it's more realistic it would happen after the next manager has served his term, the newspaper said, citing a senior club official it didn't identify.

Grant set for 5 million pay off and Mouriniho could be on his way back then. Everbodies happy

I doubt RA will leave AG penniless.
Interesting friendship though is RA Jewish?
He must be bitterly regretting let JM go.
What a mistake that was.
When will these Chairmen realise that continuity of managers is key to success?

In turn though he made some absolute GENIUS substitutions. Arsenal game at home for example. He was getting chants of "you don't know what your doing" when he made his subs and it was his subs who won him the game.

I think its a very harsh decision.

One kick away from being European Champions, losing a cup final and the league on the final day. He could have so easily won a treble.

Came in with EVERYONE against him and i can only praise the man for the job he has done.

Be interesting to see if Mourinho would come back....I think he could.

He does come out with certain credit imo, he was defo up against it from the start, the press/media wanted him a goner from day one.

He got Chelsea close but at the end of the day he didn't deliver what is now expected.

Competitions 4 trophies 0.

Roman's family is Jewish.

Roman Abramovich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NOTW says that Avram wasn't happy about taking a paycut from a reputed £3.5 million a year deal as Chelsea manager and that he turned down a £2 million a year deal to stay as Director of Football? Really!?

Re: Grant sacked as Chelsea manager

Maybe he was going to be moved/sacked regardless of the champs league result but if not, it's a fucking travesty for a man to be sacked on the margin of two shots hitting the woodwork and three of his so-called superstars (Drogba, Terry and Anelka) failing so miserably.

What makes it worse is that United dominated the first half and were made to look second best in the second half. You can only put that down to Grant's tactical nouse. The irony of it being that when his United team were being outplayed for 35 minutes, Fergie fiddled while Rome burnt as he didn't have a fuckin clue what to do about it and just stood with his fingers crossed hoping that something would happen.
