Everton to sign Andy Johnson

Johnson scored 21 goals in Palace's 2004-05 Premiership season

Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson has said that he wants to join Everton and could complete a move this week.

Palace have agreed a fee of £8.5m with Everton, Bolton and Wigan for the 25-year-old England international.

But Johnson has decided on Everton and could have a medical on Monday in a bid to complete the move quickly.

"After several days of careful consideration, I have decided that my footballing future lies at Goodison Park," he told Everton's website.

The former Birmingham striker is currently on standby for the World Cup squad.

He added: "I find the prospect of playing for one of the biggest names in British football impossible to resist.

"I believe Everton will afford me the best opportunity to fulfil my twin ambitions of winning major honours and representing England again at senior level.

Johnson met with Wigan boss Paul Jewell and chairman Dave Whelan on Friday, while Bolton were also keen to hold talks with the player who netted 21 goals in the 2004-05 Premiership season.

"I would like to thank both Wigan and Bolton, firstly for having sufficient faith in my abilities to lodge a bid and secondly for being so courteous and professional during the course of our negotiations," Johnson added.

The way hes talking sounds pretty much a done deal

Not sure about major honours bit though

Or is it playoff games in championship 2007/08 season he is thinking on??

Ill ignore previous 3 comments cos apart from the UEFA Cup one they were a load of BS frankly

The 25-year-old is likely have a medical on Monday or Tuesday before signing a four-year deal worth around £40,000 a week

Palace will get more than £5m up front from the Premiership side.
Good payday for him, Id think that significantly increases his wages from Palace.

Re: Everton to sign Andy Johnson

I rate this player Mrm' would be a very good for your club if he does come..

Everton are set to beat Wigan to the signing of Chelsea defender Robert Huth, BBC Sport understands.
The Toffees - who are also going to pip the Latics to the signing of Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson - will have a £5.5m bid accepted by Chelsea.

And the Goodison Park club are confident Huth will choose them ahead of Wigan, just as Johnson has.

Centre-back Huth, 21, is currently with the German national team in Geneva preparing for the World Cup.

He has said previously that he will have showdown talks with boss Jose Mourinho about his lack of first-team action.

"I've not heard about Wigan's interest. All I know is that I am not happy at the moment. After the World Cup I will speak to Jose Mourinho," he said.

He added: "Even a transfer to the Bundesliga is a possibility. It's all open. Nothing has been decided yet."

However, it is understood Everton are now in pole position to land the player.

Cheers Kop thats some better talk Huth would be sweet also Althugh fcuk knows where the money will come from, no point in selling Yobo to buy Huth really but I guess thats what could happen.

Heres a vid compiled by Palace fans with Johnson goals. Just full of poacher goals and neat finishes really but its got a nice bit of New Order over the top

A good player who makes things happen with his pace , too good for the championship IMO , he can also paly up front on his own quite well which should give Moyes nice options.
You seem to have the habit of signing potentially good striker only for them to not live up to expectations , Beatty the latest going back to Cottee in the early 90's.
Let's hope you carry on the tradition

He's strong and can finish. He could play in a Bolton type "bang it up to the big man" formation or I believe that he could even make it playing for a proper football team. Dont think he would be out of place at most clubs.

I do rate him as a player, think he's better than morientes anyhow. It will all depend on how much service he gets now wont it.

Its an odd one in Huff. Dont really rate him, though maybe he needs a regular berth in a team and a good run to get him going. Always looked shakey for Germany and for Chelsea. Plus, £5.5 million is hardly cut price is it? Thought he would move for peanuts....
