Silvestre goes back to France

Quote:
Arsenal have signed Manchester United's France international defender Mikael Silvestre for an undisclosed fee.
The 31-year-old joined United in September 1999 and had one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, but has now signed a two-year deal at Arsenal.
He made 249 Premier League appearances in nearly nine years with United.
Silvestre, also linked with Manchester City and Bordeaux, missed most of last season with a knee ligament injury, but returned to action in April.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told his club's website: "We have a strong squad but a young squad.
"Mikael's versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours this season.
"His defensive adaptability will serve us well, and it's a big plus that Mikael has top-level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League."
Silvestre had faced competition for the left-back slot at Old Trafford since Patrice Evra arrived from Monaco in 2006, while Nemanja Vidic has established himself as Rio Ferdinand's first-choice central defensive partner. He has become the first player to be sold to the Gunners by United since Brian Kidd in 1974.
Can't blame him to be honest. Good player but well down the pecking order at United. Good luck Mickey.

Ignore him Kegman. United supporters are famous for being bad at geography. How else would you explain the fact that so many southerners and people from Ireland, Cornwall and Devon think that they are their local club

I heard that Silvestre was actually AT Man City for the medical when he got the call to say that Arsenal were interested. Talk about a lucky escape for the bloke

Very surprised when i seen this as its not often you see players go from one of these 2 clubs to the other.

Always been a solid performer for United. Never a superstar but a very consistent defender who im sure will add a wealth of experience to the Arsenal defence.

Re: Silvestre goes back to France

I think he's a decent buy.

The fee is muted to be around £750k - or to put it another way - 0.25 Justin Hoytes

Absolute BARGAIN!

Actually, there are probably even more fans from outside the North West now than there used to be, given that the real United fans stopped going to watch them in protest at the Glaziers takeover.

I've noticed how the attendences have dropped

Or they would have if they hadn't all sloped back when nobody was looking
